Vincent D’Onofrio, Daredevil’s Kingpin actor, responds to a “leaked” image from Hawkeye depicting his supposed new MCU design. Marvel’s latest Disney+ series has arrived, and it’s already garnering the same amount of buzz and speculation as the studio’s previous streaming efforts. Hawkeye kicked off its 6-episode run last week and plunged viewers into Clint Barton’s (Jeremy Renner) first-ever solo adventure. The first two episodes of Hawkeye also spent plenty of time introducing audiences to Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Clint’s protégé from the comics who is being positioned as the show’s second lead.

As with any MCU project, Hawkeye has seen a fair amount of rumors regarding which additional Marvel characters might be involved. A popular contender is Daredevil’s Kingpin; D’Onofrio played him on the Netflix series for three seasons. Fans have been clamoring for D’Onofrio to reprise his role in a new MCU project, and various parts of Hawkeye have supported the idea that he will turn up within its 6 episodes. For one thing, the series is set in Kingpin’s domain of New York City. For another, his comics associate Echo (Alaqua Cox) is set to play a major role in the action.

In recent days, a supposedly leaked image from Hawkeye has begun making the rounds on the internet. It shows a radically new design for D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. A fan brought the image to D’Onofrio’s attention, and he quickly shot down the idea that it was actually depicting him. In fact, he had the perfect response for it: “Well it’s a really bad job from someone trying to make it look like me. This guy in the pic is more handsome I think.”

The leaked Hawkeye image doesn’t appear to be as realistic as, say, the various leaks from Spider-Man: No Way Home, so it isn’t too surprising that D’Onofrio chose the joking route instead of offering a more pointed response. Kingpin isn’t officially confirmed to appear in Hawkeye, so much of the online buzz regarding his role has been based on rumors and fan hopes. Even if he does have a role in the show, fans likely shouldn’t expect him to resemble the above picture.

For his part, D’Onofrio has been supportive of Hawkeye. Having a villain like Kingpin turn up would both turn the series on its head and hold major ramifications for the entire MCU, but with only two episodes available to watch, it’s unclear if such a thing will happen. This situation does feel similar to the ongoing debate over whether certain actors are in Spider-Man: No Way Home; it’s a good thing, then, that Marvel fans will know the truth for both by the end of 2021. For now, one thing seems clear: Don’t trust all the images you see online.
