10 Best Comedy Villains

A good comedy villain is often one that the audience loves to hate. Their outrageous and often exaggerated characteristics make them seem rather larger than life and are able to bring humor to an evil character. They also usually have ridiculous lines of dialogue that audiences love to quote.

These characters can be representations of people who the audience comes in contact within their daily lives, allowing the audience to laugh at these stereotypes brought to life. However, they can also just be so goofy and joyful in their own evil-doings that they are just fun to laugh along with. Here are the 10 best comedy villains.

10 Jean Girard-Talladega Nights – The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby

10 Best Comedy Villains

The fact that this is one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s more reserved performances is a testament to what a comedic genius he is. Still, Girard is one of his most memorable characters to date. He is an eccentric French race car driver who ends up as the main rival to Ricky Bobby, sparking Bobby’s fall and comeback within Nascar.

What makes Girard so funny is just how much of an outcast he is within the Nascar demographic. No one in the racing world really knows what to do with him as he sips his macchiato and reads while driving. He may not be super intimidating, but he is not afraid to break an arm over some crepes.

9 Bill Lumbergh – Office Space

10 Best Comedy Villains

What makes Lumbergh such a great villain is that everyone knows or has dealt with a Bill Lumbergh. He encapsulates the stereotypical office boss that can make going to work a living hell.

Gary Cole gives a perfect performance with his passive-aggressive “yeahhhh” that is not only infuriating for the characters in the movie for the audience as well. Lumbergh is someone who may not even consider himself to be the villain, but for most people who have a boss like him, he is as evil as they come.

8 Hedley Lamarr – Blazing Saddles

10 Best Comedy Villains

Often mistakenly referred to as “Hedy” Lamarr, who was, in fact, a female actress of the Golden Age of Hollywood, the character of Hedley Lamarr is a corrupt district attorney who will do whatever it takes to take over the town of Rock Ridge and build a railroad through it. Harvey Korman clearly had the time of his life playing this hilariously evil government official.

Lamarr knows he is a villain and is very over the top in how he shows it. Most of his plans, however, backfire in hilarious ways, as he continues to surround himself with villainous idiots. He may not be the best at his job, but he certainly enjoys doing it.

7 Harry & Marv – Home Alone

10 Best Comedy Villains

Known unofficially as “The Wet Bandits,” Harry and Marv are the two bumbling robbers who are constantly thwarted by Kevin McCallister in this Christmas classic.

Played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, these two burglars are subject to the sadistic traps set up for them by a malicious kid. Their hilarious reactions bring out the laughs as they fall down stairs, step on Christmas ornaments, and get hit in the face by paint cans. Pesci and Stern still bring a level of charisma to these characters that make them fan favorites, even if they keep robbing people.

6 Dark Helmet – Spaceballs

10 Best Comedy Villains

Here is another comedic villain who was given to the world by the great Mel Brooks. An obvious parody of Darth Vader, Dark Helmet is a wonderfully quirky villain played by Rick Moranis. What makes him so funny is just how non-threatening he is. Moranis is perfectly cast here, as he usually plays someone who is rather cowardly, making it hard to take him seriously in a villainous role, which is exactly what Dark Helmet is.

From the second he opens his mask, it sets the tone for who his character is. It is a really funny take on the Darth Vader character and makes him more relatable.

5 Les Grossman – Tropic Thunder

10 Best Comedy Villains

The most shocking thing about Tropic Thunder is the end credits when everyone finds out that Les Grossman is Tom Cruise. Cruise is completely hidden as this character and gives a performance that has never been seen before from him.

Grossman is a business giant who is only focused on making money and really has no regard for human life. He delivers some amazing movie insults as he rants at his employees and the kidnappers who he is negotiating with. However, the most memorable scene from Grossman may be his epic dance to Ludacris during the end credits.

4 Regina George – Mean Girls

10 Best Comedy Villains

Similar to Bill Lumbergh, Regina George is a high schooler’s worst nightmare. She brings fear to anyone who dealt with somebody like her in high school. She is a stereotypical popular girl, but she also has an obsession with control and power. She must keep her crown as the most popular girl in school and will do whatever it takes.

While it is funny to see Cady take Regina off of her pedestal, Cady begins to turn into her own version of a Regina. It is a reminder that popularity and power can get into someone’s head and people are always fighting for the crown.

3 Shooter McGavin – Happy Gilmore

10 Best Comedy Villains

Shooter is a typical private club, snooty golfing stereotype. To the masses, he seems like a charismatic golfing superstar. However, behind the scenes, he is an overdramatic, sore loser. His frustration with Happy’s rise to success is not only due to his obsession with remaining at the top, but he also sees Happy as a disgrace to the great game of golf.

He also consistently fails to deliver good insults and is always outwitted by a killer line from Happy. He may be smooth on camera, but the audience knows that he is really what he claims to eat for breakfast.

2 White Goodman – Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

10 Best Comedy Villains

Owner of Globo Gym, White Goodman is a complete narcissist who is obsessed with staying in shape and surrounding himself with only the most beautiful of people. Insulting, crude, and delusional, Goodman still has some of the most hilarious lines delivered perfectly by the always funny Ben Stiller.

His vileness is very goofy and exaggerated, but it is hard to not enjoy how cocky and arrogant his character is. Just remember that nobody makes him bleed his own blood. Nobody.

1 Dr. Evil – Austin Powers Franchise

It is impossible to count how many iconic quotes have come from this character. Even though Austin Powers is the hero of these movies, Dr. Evil easily steals the show. He is also surrounded by an equally funny cast of villains, including Frau Farbissina, Fat Bastard, Number 2, and Mini-Me.

As a direct parody of a James Bond villain, Dr. Evil is always coming up with elaborate and convoluted plans to take over the world, including firing a “laser” at the earth. Even though he claims to want one million dollars, he will only truly be happy when he has sharks with laser beams on their heads.
