Jonny Quest is a cartoon that first emerged in the 1960s, and is among Hanna Barbera’s cartoon collection. The cartoon depicted young Jonny going on adventures around the world with his father Dr. Benton Quest, Race Bannon, Hadji and his dog, Bandit.

A day in Jonny Quest’s life was never boring as he came across characters of all kinds, usually helped defeat some kind of villain, and emerged with a new and exciting story to tell. The action cartoon had a realistic look to it that stood out from other Hanna Barbera cartoons; Jonny and the gang had plenty of exciting adventures, but IMDb determined their ten best.

10 “Calcutta Adventure” (7.8)

This episode is a flashback to when Race and the Quests first met Hadji and adopted him. As the story goes, Hadji saves Dr. Quest from another man throwing a knife his direction, and Jonny Quest and Hadji form a friendship. Dr. Quest determines someone wants to stop him from researching an illness, and Hadji joins the gang for the adventure that takes them to the snowy mountains to stop the bad guys and introduces them to a helicopter pilot with a tendency to negotiate his rates.

9 “Shadow Of The Condor” (7.8)

An emergency landing is only the beginning of the troubles to befall the Quest clan. Upon landing, they are taken in by a seemingly hospitable Baron, but it turns out the Baron has ulterior motives.

A former fighter ace, the Baron wants to up his kill count and play games, finding a suitable opponent in an unwilling Race. The two battle things out in the air, with the Baron’s plane locked and loaded, and Race having to rely on his skills alone.

8 “The House Of Seven Gargoyles” (7.9)

A disguised gargoyle is the source of trouble in this episode. Dr. Quest helps another scientist protect his invention from the gargoyle intruder, who makes several attempts to break into the castle to steal it. The spooky castle makes an excellent setting, combined with its private cemetery and sneaky gargoyle. The gang thinks Jonny Quest is seeing things at first when he claims to see a periscope and then a moving gargoyle, but it’s not long before they see for themselves just what’s going on.

7 “The Quetong Missile Mystery” (8.0)

Dr. Quest’s presence is requested at the local police station, and the Commissioner informs Dr. Quest that locals have been falling ill by consuming the fish they have eaten for centuries. The Commissioner requests his help in uncovering an explanation, as he believes something ominous is going on, given investigators have gone missing in the area.

Not long afterwards, someone tries to blow up Dr. Quest and the gang, and later kidnaps Jonny and Hadji from their hotel. Race and Dr. Quest discover a policeman to be dirty, and use his information to solve the mystery and save the two boys.

6 “Dragons Of Ashida” (8.1)

The Quests pick up a terrified local who warns them not to go onto a nearby island, given the dragons there. Dr. Quest is on his way to see Dr. Ashida, a respected scientist known for his zoological research, and goes ashore anyway. Dr. Ashida has taken “survival of the fittest” to a terrifying and insane level, given he has created over-sized lizards that have acquired a taste for human flesh. The Quests decide to leave, finding Dr. Ashida off, and soon find themselves running from the creatures. In order to win back their freedom, Race agrees to a perilous fight with Sumi, a man much larger than Race, but it’s not quite enough for Dr. Ashida, who insists they can only leave when he allows it.

5 “Turu The Terrible” (8.1)

One of the brothers that gave Dr. Quest an ore sample is later rescued by the Quests, who tells them about his brother being abducted by Turu, a huge bird that hasn’t been around in millions of years, supposedly. While going up the river, the Quests meet angry crocodiles and soon spot the huge bird the man had been describing. As it turns out, Turu is commanded by an elderly master, who uses Turu to kidnap the local natives and force them to mine the ores, like the precious metal given to Dr. Quest.

Knowing Turu and his master must be stopped, Race and Dr. Quest set out to do just that, and both Turu and his master meet an unfortunate ending, one that Dr. Quest and Race regret, wishing they could’ve done more.

4 “The Mystery Of The Lizard Men” (8.3)

The series’ very first episode finds the Quest clan, except for Hadji, in the middle of a mystery concerning suspicious-looking red beams (that turn out to be lasers) and lizard men. Ships have been disappearing in the Sargasso Sea, and Dr. Quest has been called in to investigate. Race, Jonny and Bandit are eventually captured by the lizard men while exploring a shipwreck, and discover the lasers at the source–and what the bad guys are up to. They narrowly escape, but are aided by Dr. Quest’s clever use of a mirror against the laser.

3 “The Robot Spy” (8.5)

Dr. Zin is at it again, this time using a spider-like robot to spy on Dr. Quest. Dr. Quest is busy working on his newest invention, a para-power ray gun. Luckily, Dr. Quest and Race are notified by a guard at Quest Laboratory of a strange light located not far from the facility, and they go to examine it. It takes a bit before they figure out that the strange craft (the source of the light) they come across is far more dangerous than it looks; the robot spy manages to sneak onto the facility and causes trouble, eavesdropping on Dr. Quest and Race, and gathering information on the invention.

Dr. Zin, however, is foiled again by the Quests, who destroy his spy before it can report back its findings.

2 “The Curse Of Anubis” (8.5)

Dr. Quest is summoned to Egypt by an old friend, Dr. Kareem. Jonny longs to ride a camel, and does so briefly before falling and landing in water. However, the trip isn’t all fun and games, as Dr. Kareem has stolen an artifact which has drawn out the mummy, and curse, of Anubis, whose footsteps are emphasized by a pronounced sound effect, and who trails after Dr. Kareem and the Quest group, looking for his stolen artifact. Dr. Kareem intends to frame Dr. Quest for the theft, but instead Race and Dr. Quest escape with help from Jonny and Hadji, leaving the mummy to deal with Dr. Kareem.

1 “The Invisible Monster” (8.7)

The Quests are in for quite an assignment when a fellow scientist accidentally unleashes a monster. The experiment goes wrong, creating not just a powerful but also invisible monster, who unfortunately decides to go on a mission of devastation. The group hurries to help, and finds a monster unlike any other they’ve dealt with before–one that feeds off energy, whether it be electricity, or a human body. The monster has already consumed the scientist that called for help, leaving Dr. Quest and the others to destroy his creation. They use paint to make the being visible, revealing a creepy-looking one-eyed monster, and Dr. Quest resolves that the one way to destroy it, is to reverse the process in which it was created.
