The new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home hinted at many potential villains from across the multiverse, including Electro. While Jamie Foxx has been confirmed to appear in the movie, he could potentially be playing another version of Max Dillon. There are certainly many powerful variants of Electro in the comics that he could portray.

Many different iterations of Electro exist in the continuity of the Marvel Universe and beyond, some of whom are more powerful than others. Most of them have a tendency to end up on versions of the Sinister Six, making Electro a consistent and formidable threat to Spider-Man and other heroes across the multiverse.

10 Six Men of Sinestry

The Electro from Earth-803 exists in a steampunk-like reality from the Spider-Verse. His powers derive from a complex electrical battery that he carries on his back. They’re somewhat limited, as this world is powered more by steam than anything else, but he remains a formidable threat.

Part of that is because he is a member of the Six Men of Sinestry, a version of the Sinister Six along with Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and others. They come together in opposition against Lady Spider, one of the best alternate versions of Spider-Woman.

9 MC2

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

The Electro from the MC2 alternate universe is essentially an older version of Max Dillon. He has all of his basic powers, including generating electricity and becoming super strong when absorbing electrical charges.

Electro can also move incredibly fast and boost his powers by absorbing the energy of electrical devices, especially power lines. This Electro is slightly reformed though, and actually seeks out Spider-Man’s help to set his daughter straight after she becomes a supervillain herself.

8 Aftershock

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

Aftershock is Allison Dillon, Max’s daughter from the future MC2 universe. She inherited her powers from her father and is capable of all of the same feats that he is through electricity. One contrast though is that they have a difference in their individual electrical auras.

While it’s not clear if this gives her an advantage in power over him, it definitely has consequences. Because of their different charges, it is painful for Allison and Max to touch, which only adds to the pain and frustration that exists between them.

7 Old Man Logan

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

The Old Man Logan universe is one of Marvel Comics’ darkest future timelines. The version of Electro in this nightmare reality has the same powers as the one on core Earth-616, but he is far more ruthless. He participates in the wholesale slaughter of superheroes all over the world that casts this reality into darkness.

During the cataclysmic battle in New York City, he electrocutes Moon Knight. Electro is ultimately killed by the Punisher, but not before he contributes to one of the worst events in the Marvel multiverse.

6 Francine Frye

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

Francine Frye became Electro in 2014 and has in general the same powerset as Max Dillon does. This mega-fan of Electro also can absorb electrical charges, which gives her superhuman strength. Her powers are unique though in that they’re designed; she’s actually a clone of herself, mixed with Dillon’s DNA.

Francine died kissing Electro in the comics, and after she was electrocuted, she was revived by The Jackal. Comic fans will recognize The Jackal as the architect of the endless clones of Spider-Man in The Clone Saga, a major comic crossover the MCU is likely to avoid adapting.

5 Marvel Noir

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

The Marvel Noir version of Electro is physically much stronger than most of his counterparts. This Max Dillon is much stockier and taller than the usually slim Electros of other realties.

He also has a more practically based source of power. He carries around a massive array of Tesla coils on his back which feeds into prods that look a lot like lightsabers as he wields them. He can generate massive discharges of electricity but doesn’t seem to be able to absorb electricity into his body in the same way his counterparts can.

4 The Gauntlet

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

During “The Gauntlet” comic book story arc, Max gets a major upgrade in his powers. Before, there were limits to how much electrical energy he could store and discharge. Now, there are no limits. Beyond being able to control electricity, he also gains agency over magnetism, making him even more powerful.

This new power comes at a steep price, however. He suffers from burn marks on his face and gradually loses control of his powers, which become more and more erratic the more electricity that he absorbs.

3 2099

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

The 2099 version of Electro was actually an android designed to work in construction in this far-future reality. His powers manifest during a work accident and he becomes sentient. His powers include electrokinesis (the ability to perceive energy in its many forms), and also flight.

His hearing is also extremely acute, giving him advance warning of any oncoming attacks. Like most other versions of Electro, he teamed up with the Sinister Six against Spider-Man, who in this reality is Miguel O’Hara.

2 Ultimate Electro

10 Most Powerful Variants Of Electro In Marvel Comics

The Ultimate Comics Electro is far more powerful and in some aspects far more successful than his Earth-616 counterpart. This Dillon has far more control over his powers than others and can generate much greater yields of electricity.

Outside of his special containment suit, he is a being of pure electrical energy with virtually no physical limitations. He succeeded in defeating and capturing Spider-Man in their very first encounter, unlike the initial Earth-616 encounter, which ended in swift defeat for Max.

1 Electro-Verse

The Electro-Verse is by far the most powerful and terrifying realization of Electro in the multiverse. The combined forces of infinite Electros from across space and time unlocks potential on a scale never before seen by any version of the character.

They’re composed of dramatically different variants of the character, but they all seek the same thing – power and the destruction of Spider-Man. Their reign comes to an unexpected end when they’re trapped on the steampunk Earth-308 inside a massive Faraday Cage.
