The year of 2020 was a hard year for the film industry, but 2021 has been especially hard on television. Many of the world’s favorite shows were either canceled or came to their inevitable conclusion this year, whether it was due to poor ratings or that their stories simply had nowhere left to go.

Whether made by HBO, NBC, or Amazon, the fans of these shows were expectedly distraught at the announcements of their favorite series coming to a permanent end. Some were much more upset about these cancellations than others, and they were certainly not afraid of taking to Reddit to vent out their emotions on the subject.

Arthur (PBS)

It was announced about halfway through the year that an end of an era would be coming to PBS with the cancellation of their long-running animated educational children’s series, Arthur, its 25 season set to air later in 2022. The Redditors who spoke out on its cancellation were mainly upset for sentimental reasons, as they had grown up watching the show.

Users have expressed feelings of disappointment and bittersweet nostalgia, with Heartsnpinkchickens saying “I watched it faithfully from 1st/2nd grade all the way up through college because it gave me comfort. Now I’m a parent and I have my kids watch it.” It’s one of those older PBS shows that kids still love, and while it may be ending after nearly a quarter of a century, its legacy will hopefully continue through reruns.

American Gods (Starz)

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods quickly became one of the most popular and talked about shows when it first premiered on Starz in 2017.
