Ash Ketchum is the 10-year-old protagonist of the Pokémon animated series as well as all of the Pokémon movies. Although he is best known for being a talented Pokémon trainer, he has proven himself to be very athletic and durable, withstanding the brunt of some Pokémon attacks throughout his many adventures.
Pokémon are fearsome opponents, some of which can shoot razor sharp leaves, ice, fire, or are just massive in comparison to a child. However, there are some Pokémon that even a child like Ash would be able to defeat on his own with only his bare hands.
10 Magikarp’s Splash Won’t Save It From Ash’s Fists
Infamously known as the absolute weakest Pokémon to ever exist, Ash would be able to take down Magikarp by himself. Magikarp’s signature move, Splash, consists of the fish flopping about rather uselessly, biding its time until it can use Struggle. In the games, that would take approximately 40 turns, which gives Magikarp’s opponent more than enough time to defeat it without breaking a sweat. Although it shouldn’t be difficult for Ash to get a victory, he would probably need to evacuate after winning, as a Magikarp is capable of evolving into a Gyarados if it gets angry.
9 Spearow Was Shoved Away By Ash To Save Pikachu
When Ash first encountered a Spearow on his Pokémon adventure, he dealt a significant amount of damage to it just by throwing a rock. The rock left a large lump on its head and even made it shed a tear. If not for the Spearow calling for backup from the rest of the Spearow in the area, Ash would have had a good chance of defeating or catching it on his own, even without Pikachu. In Pokémon: I Choose You, Ash is able to effortlessly push multiple Spearow out of his way to get to Pikachu as well, showing he could physically overpower it.
8 Metapod Has No Means Of Offense To Hit Ash With
Metapod is one of the most durable Pokémon in the series, especially if it is given enough turns to spam the move Harden. A battle against a Metapod can be a frustrating one, as it can drag on for eternity like a game of Monopoly. Metapods in the wild usually don’t know any moves other than String Shot and Harden, so all Ash would need to do in order to win against it is to have a lot of patience as he whittles down its health.
7 Ditto Can’t Do Much After Transforming Into Ash
Ditto is capable of transforming into its opponent in order to use their own moves against them. This would essentially make Ditto the same power level and abilities as Ash. However, this makes the fight more balanced in Ash’s favor since Ditto wouldn’t have access to any elemental moves, instead having to rely on a normal or fighting skill set. Additionally, taking Ash’s ability to quickly adapt to various situations due to his extensive experience in Pokémon battles into account, Ash would be a few steps ahead of the Pokémon.
6 Abra Would Immediately Forfeit The Match & Teleport Away
While both of Abra’s evolved forms, Kadabra, and Alakazam, are strong Pokémon, Abra is actually a huge coward. In the original Pokémon games and their remakes, Abra is hardly the type to stick around.
Usually, upon an encounter, an Abra likes to teleport away from a trainer to a safe location, pushing trainers to throw a ball on the first turn and cross their fingers. If Abra were to flee at the mere sight of Ash, that would automatically be considered Ash’s victory.
5 Dunsparce Isn’t Courageous Or Agile Enough To Dodge Ash’s Assault
Like Abra, Dunsparce is completely lacking in courage. The moment it gets spotted, it likes to dig a hole with its tail to escape. According to Pokémon Crystal, Dunsparce likes to spend its time sitting motionless in caves. This, combined with tiny wings that can barely lift its body into the air and a lack of legs, makes it far less agile than Ash. It does have some Normal and Ground moves, but considering its lack of speed, Ash would have more than enough time to defeat it before it has a chance to attack.
4 Timburr Would Be Robbed Of & Beaten With Its Log
Surprisingly, Ash would be nearly around the same power level as Gurdurr, the evolved form of Timburr. Ash has been seen carrying a log by himself and even throwing it a large distance away, which is a very impressive feat for someone his age. Timburr is usually seen carrying a log as well, but it is smaller than the one Ash was able to throw. Since Ash has the physical strength to do so, he could probably take away Timburr’s primary weapon and use it against it.
3 Primeape Would Be Outsmarted By Ash
Primeape spends most of its life being angry. Mere eye contact can send it flying into a rage, and the angrier it gets, the stronger it becomes. Most Pokédex entries state that this enhanced strength comes at the cost of its intelligence, making it very easy to outwit it.
Pokémon Sun has the darkest entry of all, stating that a state of excessive anger can come at the cost of this Pokémon’s life. Thankfully, Ash has the brains, strength, and agility to be able to defeat it before that would happen.
2 Meowth Doesn’t Have Enough Attacks To Take Ash Down
Team Rocket’s Meowth is more human than he is a Pokémon, preferring to speak the language of humans and avoid fighting in battles himself. Although he has been seen using his scratch attack, it does not do much damage, merely leaving painful-looking scratches on the faces of whoever made him angry. Meowth doesn’t have an extensive repertoire of moves, likely because of the effort it took him to learn how to communicate with humans, so he would be at a major disadvantage against Ash.
1 Unknown Only Has One Move That Can Be Easily Countered
Unknown, as a group, can be incredibly powerful, bending reality and even creating a copy of Entei in Pokémon 3: The Movie. However, Pokédex entries in Pokémon Platinum, White, and Black state that nothing happens when they’re alone, but the Unknown can display their powers when they are accompanied by others of its kind. Individually, the only move that it knows is Hidden Power, which would make it much easier for Ash to figure out a way to counter it. The Unknown’s body also comprises mostly of a singular eye that never blinks, giving the Pokemon a major and obvious weakness.
