Pokémon Go really made some ripples in 2016, so much so that even non-fans got into the augmented reality app. Families and friends would show up in parks and malls just to walk around and catch pokémon. It was a great time and a genius idea to get everyone outside and socializing. Since then, the hype has definitely died down. However, there are still players.

It is a fun activity to do while walking through a neighborhood or while waiting in a line. Its actually a little ironic that they hype died down, as now there is even more to do in the game and the glitches and bugs were sorted out. When the hype was at its height—and once in a while since then—memes have been created. If you are feeling nostalgic for the game or still happily play with your family and friends, here are some funny memes for you.

10 Razz Berries

In Pokémon Go, Razz Berries can be used to improve the capture rate of wild Pokémon. Sort of like in the Safari’s of the main series, players would feed berries to wild Pokémon. This would increase the possibility of catching them.

This meme is showing an unfortunate circumstance that can happen to a player that doesn’t check their ball inventory before using berries. You can easily use berries and then realize that you don’t even have Pokéballs to actually catch the Pokémon with.

9 Run, Ash, Run!

Charizards are rare spawns, especially back in 2016. No joke, it is the sort of thing that got certain players running and jumping fences. The picture is Forest from Forest Gump, but he is wearing Ash Ketchum’s hat from the Pokémon anime.

A common form of the text part of the meme is that the girl says her parents aren’t home. However, this meme has been used in all sorts of ways.

8 Just A Weedle

Hatching eggs has always been a part of Pokémon, and that is no different for the Pokémon Go app. Like in the main games, the amount of steps the player takes is used to count down when the egg will hatch. Typically the more steps the player is required to take for the egg to hatch . . . the more rare the Pokémon will be.

However, a lot of players had to get used to disappointment. Even rare eggs often resulted in a common species with maybe just a higher power level than usual.

7 So. Much. Walking

This meme is a joke about the amount of exercise Pokémon Go suddenly got people to do. The main cast of players were more used to sitting down to play games, not walking around.

The eggs players would collect would encourage walking certain distances, so it can get a little addicting to walk around to hatch them. Though some players found ways to cheat and attached their phones to robots or something.

6 Finding Nothing

The app will sometimes alert players if there is a Pokémon nearby. However, it is not always right. Mistakes can be made. It the player does try to look for something that isn’t there, they do look a little funny and sad.

There are areas that are way better than others to play the app. For example, cities are the place to be. For those that live in the middle of nowhere, good luck.

5 No Pokémon For Miles

Now this is actually a bizarre sight to see on a player screen. Typically when there is a gym, there will also be Pokéstops nearby along with wild Pokémon. However, it is a big world and sometimes, there’s just nothing around for miles in the real world. Such places exist.

The real question is what happened to the gym? Is it restaurant? A statue? The possibilities are endless. It’s just tragic that there are no Pokémon or stops along the way. At the very least, there could be something.

4 Pokémon Go’s Potato Servers

A constant joke among Pokémon Go players is that the servers are delicate. Players would constantly lose connection or get kicked out of the game in the middle of a battle. It was all very frustrating.

At least these memes were here to make us laugh about it instead of cry. Over time, the issues have gotten better. This actually could be due to having less players to crowd the servers.

3 The Bad Neighborhood

This screenshot from Rick and Morty is when Rick leaves Summer in his super intelligent robot car. The car protects Summer but at the cost of killing people and escalating the situation more and more in a morbidly hilarious way.

For meme purposes, though, this also works. The way Summer is holding her phone makes it believable that she is playing Pokémon Go. There is a reason the app is full of safety warnings. It is easy to wander into places you aren’t supposed to be if you are just focused on the game the entire time.

2 Who Cares?

Those who never liked Pokémon Go were the top killjoys of 2016. What was not to like about everyone having fun and going outside? There was a lot of hype though and those who weren’t involved justifiably got tiring of hearing about it. However, society likes what it likes.

There are those who don’t care about sports either, but nobody pays them any mind either when enjoying what they enjoy.

1 There’s A Blastoise Here!

The best part of this meme is the fact that the job interviewer also wants to catch the Blastoise. That was part of what made the app so fun, a lot of people played! It was a worldwide phenomenon.

This is also funny because it suggests the only reason the woman is in the room is to catch the Blastoise and not even try to get the job.
