The world of Pokémon is unique and diverse in a number of ways, especially in regards to its wild inhabitants. Pokémon come in many different shapes and sizes: some are small and cuddly, others are fierce and intimidating, and some can be more than just a little strange. There’s also quite the collection of creatures that appear to have facial hair in some way, shape, or form.

Sometimes these mustaches and beards are made of hair, sometimes they’re made of fur, and sometimes they’re made of something completely different. Whatever the case, these Pokémon have some striking facial features.

10 Swalot: Such Thin Whiskers

The evolved form of Gulpin, Swalot is a big blob creature with an even bigger stomach. Just beside its mouth that’s capable of swallowing anything are two long, thin whiskers. The purpose of these whiskers is unclear, though they give Swalot’s face a characteristic similar to a catfish.

It’s unknown if Swalot’s whiskers are made of actual hair of any kind, though the best guess would be that the whiskers are of a similar consistency as the rest of the Poison Bag Pokémon’s body. It’s a small feature for this Pokémon, but a noticeable one.

9 Kricketune: Its Antennae Become A Mustache After Evolving

10 Pokémon That Look Like They Have Facial Hair

When the cricket-like Pokémon Kricketot evolves into Kricketune, a very strange thing happens to the antennae atop its head. It appears that, through evolving, these antennae move downward till they’re just above Kricketune’s nose, forming what appears to be a curly little mustache.

This change does have aesthetic value, adding to the whole gentlemanly violinist look that this species of Pokémon is going for, though it almost looks like Kricketot’s head had to flip upside down to make this feat possible. Just one of the many strange details of Pokémon evolution.

8 Herdier & Stoutland: Furry & Fuzzy Facial Hair

It’s hard to say that a dog has facial hair, considering they already have furry faces, though the Lillipup line seems to provide an exception to that rule by combining the features of a Scottish Terrier and a Yorkshire Terrier for its two evolutions, Herdier and Stoutland.

With this combination of dog breeds, Herdier’s fur ends up forming a mustache/eyebrow combo, one that only gets longer and wilder after it evolves into Stoutland. The Pokédex mentions that Stoutland’s fur is warm and soft enough to shield people from the cold like a blanket, so that would probably go for its luxuriously fuzzy mustache as well.

7 Probopass: A Mustache Made Of Iron

Probopass, the evolved form of Nosepass, is known as the Compass Pokémon thanks to its magnetic nose. On top of being much larger than its pre-evolution, Probopass also sports what appears to be a bushy mustache made out of iron filling that’s attracted to its nose.

It does distinguish this Easter Island statue-looking Pokémon quite a bit, though its metal ‘stache could also be seen as a big brush of nose hairs. Whatever the case, it’s clear Probopass doesn’t grow this facial feature itself, though one has to wonder if those iron fillings ever bother its nose.

6 Kadabra, Alakazam, & Mega Alakazam: Facial Hair Evolution

10 Pokémon That Look Like They Have Facial Hair

Kadabra and Alakazam were the first-ever Pokémon to be seen with some form of facial hair. After Abra evolves into Kadabra, it sprouts a distinct set of whiskers that grow into a much longer and bushier mustache as Alakazam. It’s not clear what this Pokémon’s facial hair is made of, considering that it’s unconfirmed if these Pokémon actually have fur or if their mustaches are the only hair on their bodies.

What’s clear is that the Abra line’s facial features are supposed to invoke a mystic aesthetic, one that’s further explored with Mega Alakazam, whose long white beard gives it a wise old wizard vibe.

5 Galarian Meowth & Perrserker: A Beard That’s Tough, Messy, And Untamed

Regional variants are a new way that the Pokémon franchise has been able to reintroduce old Pokémon with a new look, typing, and even an expanded evolutionary line. One such example is the Galarian Meowth, who appears more savage and untamed than your typical Meowth with its long furry beard.

After evolving into Perrserker, the Galarian Meowth changes to look more like a Viking, with a helmet made of hardened iron hair and a paler bushy beard covering its face. It’s wild, messy, and untamed — not too much unlike these Pokémon themselves.

4 Samurott: Whiskers That Give It A Samurai Look

The final form of the Unovan starter Pokémon Oshawott, Samurott gives off the appearance of a wise and battle-hardened samurai, thanks to the shells on its body that act as armor and weapons and its long white whiskers that almost look like a beard-and-mustache combo.

Samurott’s facial hair fits with the overall aesthetic, while possibly also serving another function entirely. In the real world, sea lions use their whiskers to detect vibrations in the water to catch prey, so it’s likely that Samurott, being based on a sea lion, uses its big whiskers for a similar purpose.

3 Honchkrow: A Feathery Beard For This Bird

With an intimidating glare, a collection of Murkrow cronies, and a feathery crest atop its head that looks like a fedora, Honchkrow gives off the appearance of an old school mob boss. That’s not just for show either, since Honchkrow is known to be rather violent and ruthless, especially when its underlings fail.

To top it off, Honchkrow also has a tuft of feathers under its face that resembles a long white beard. This also diversifies the Big Boss Pokémon’s dark color palette with just enough white for a nice added touch.

2 Alolan Golem: A Magnetic Visage Of Facial Hair

The Alolan Golem is a variant from the Alola region that got itself a nice bit of facial distinction from its original counterpart. It also may have taken a cue from the aforementioned Probopass, as this Golem sports a magnetic mustache, beard, and eyebrow combo that’s completely made out of iron sand, all thanks to this version’s added Electric typing.

In the Sun & Moon anime, it’s also revealed that the Alolan Golem’s iron sand beard is also a sign of its dominance, as losing its magnetic facial hair caused a Golem to lose confidence in itself.

1 Galarian Weezing: A Beard And Mustache Made Entirely Of Gas

There were many interesting regional variant Pokémon added in the Galar region, some of which are admittedly downright strange, and the Galarian Weezing has to be among them. On top of gaining Fairy typing, this version of Weezing also sports two smokestacks atop its heads that resemble top hats. Even stranger yet, this Pokémon has a mustache on one head and a full beard on the other, both made out of cloudy green gas.

Some Pokémon have had facial hair made of fur, feathers, and even metal, but the Galar region’s Weezing goes one step further by making its faux facial hair completely intangible and not even really attached to its face at all.
