10 Pokémon To Win Every Beauty Contest

Pokémon Contests were introduced in Gen 3 and only appeared after that in Gen 4 and in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remakes. They involve feeding your Pokémon Pokéblocks in Gen 3 and Poffins in Gen 4 to increase their condition. The moves and condition of Pokémon are judged to see who is the best in their category, whether it be Toughness, Coolness, Cleverness, Cuteness, and Beauty.

To increase a Pokémon’s chances of winning a contest, they’ll need to be fed the right kind of Pokéblocks or Poffins and they’ll need to know the right kind of moves. For a Pokémon entering a Beauty contest, they’ll need to know moves with the Beauty condition, such as Gyro Ball or Petal Dance. Each move has a certain amount of Appeal, and the higher the Appeal of the move, the better a Pokémon’s chances in a Contest.

Gardevoir’s Healing Wish on its own has a massive 8 Appeal points. In total, the Gen 6 learnset of the Embrace Pokémon has 17 Appeal points in Beauty. TMs with 4 Appeal points like Dazzling Gleam and Energy Ball can also be taught to give Gardevoir the best possible chance of winning a Contest Spectacular, as they’re known in Gen 6.

In Gens 3 and 4, Gardevoir has more Smart moves than Beauty moves, so it’s best to use it in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games.

The Legendary Pokémon Suicune’s Beauty moves pack the most punch in Gen 3, when it has 6 Beauty moves with 2 Appeal points each. Take advantage of the TMs Suicune can learn and it becomes a beautiful beast.

TMs like Sunny Day can be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, which is a pairing of two moves that grant additional Appeal points when used one after another, doubling the points of Fire-Type moves and certain others, such as Moonlight and Morning Sun.

8 Lapras Has The Moves To Jam With The Best

Lapras is the serene and gentle Pokémon that’s been around since Gen 1. The Transport Pokémon has a host of Beauty moves, including Water Gun, Hydro Pump, and Ice Beam, which in Contest Spectalurs has 4 Jamming points.

Jamming causes the other Pokémon in the contest to become startled, lowering their Appeal points by the amount of Jamming points the inflicting move has, so it’s a good way of getting an advantage in a contest.

7 Cresselia’s Lunar Dance Is A Thing Of Beauty

The smooth lines and pastel colors make the Gen 4 Lunar Pokémon a sight to behold. Moves like Moonlight, Aurora Beam, and Mist give it a good foundation of Beauty moves, while Lunar Dance has a whopping 8 Appeal points, the only catch being that the user can’t take any more moves afterward.

In Gen 6, Cresselia can learn Moonblast, a good move to use to startle the other Pokémon, with 4 Jamming points.

The Gen 4 Pokémon that evolves from Eevee when near an Ice Rock has five Beauty moves as part of its learnset. In the Diamond and Pearl games these moves all have 2 Appeal points, but in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Blizzard, for example, has 1 Appeal point and 3 Jamming points.

In the original Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games, Blizzard has 4 Appeal points and no Jamming points. So depending on the game being played, it’s worth a quick check to see which are the best moves to use.

Mantine has a host of Beauty moves to choose from, particularly in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games. The Kite Pokémon can learn 7 Beauty moves, three of which have 3 Appeal points, while two have 3 Jamming points.

If Rain Dance (which Mantine can learn via TM) is used prior to Bubblebeam, it grants an extra Appeal point. Mantine is also a good Pokémon to teach the HM Surf to, as apart from its use in the field, when used in a contest after Dive it gains an extra 3 Appeal points.

Frosslass was introduced in Gen 4, and the Snow Land Pokémon has no less than 6 Beauty moves in her learnset, including Powder Snow, Icy Wind, and Hail, a good move to use to boost the Appeal points of subsequent moves.

Ninetales has a large array of Beauty moves at its disposal. In Gen 3, Ember, Safeguard, and Fire Spin have a total of 8 Appeal points between them. When you factor in TMs such as Overheat, which has 6 Appeal points, Flamthrower, and Fire Blast, each with 4, the Fox Pokémon is a major contender in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald especially.

Its learnset isn’t quite as good in Gens 3 and 4 but TMs can still be taken advantage of to make it a contest winner.

2 Pikachu Belle Is As Cute As A Button

Cosplay Pikachu was introduced in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games. It can wear one of five costumes that correlate to the categories of Contest Spectaculars. Pikachu Belle is the Beautiful version of Cosplay Pikachu and sees the electric mouse donning a Southern belle costume.

Its signature move is Icicle Crash, which has an Appeal of 3, but if Hail was used the previous turn, it gains 3 extra Appeal points.

1 Milotic Is Said To Be The Most Beautiful Pokémon

Supposedly the most beautiful Pokémon there is, in Gens 3 and 4 you could only obtain Milotic by raising Feebas’s Beautiful condition to 170 and leveling it up, which would involve feeding it a lot of Pokéblocks and Poffins.

From Gen 5 onwards, Feebas was changed to be a trade evolution. Still, if you do manage to find and evolve a Feebas in the Ruby and Sapphire or Diamond and Pearl games, it’s already going to have a high Beautiful condition, and with its Beauty moves like Water Pulse, Aqua Ring, and Hydro Pump, it’s pretty much a shoo-in to take the top prize.
