Like with many anime, there are many things about Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind that make no sense, like Nausicaa removing her mask in a poisoned area. One thing fans will understand from watching this film is that this world’s chocked full of large insect creatures like Oh Mu meant to represent the toxins humanity introduces into the world.

Further, having Oh Mu become a Pokémon would install that message in fans’ minds whenever they’d encounter the creature.
