The Naruto franchise has serious staying power. Started as a manga serial in 1999, the series became an anime and spawned numerous movies. Spin-off series Boruto debuted shortly after Naruto concluded. While a movie debuted first, the anime and manga are now flourishing.

Debuting in 2017, the anime hasn’t seen all of its episodes get English dubs yet. That hasn’t stopped audiences from outside of Japan from devouring the series. Nearly 5,000 ratings on the Internet Movie Database have given the series a 7.3 out of 10 rating. All of its top episodes have been rated far above that. There are more than 150 episodes of the show animated so far, pulling from the manga that inspires it and filling in character backstories. 15 A Shinobi’s Resolve S1E37 (8.6)

The “Graduation Exam” arc continues in this episode as the audience learns exactly what Kakashi thought Boruto might be missing in the previous episode.

Like he did with Naruto’s generation, Kakashi employs the bell test. Unlike Naruto’s generation, Boruto’s classmates resolve to band together very quickly to move against him. When they demonstrate how well their entire generation works together as a team – despite not retrieving the bells – Kakashi passes them all.

14 Boruto And Tento S1E51 (8.7)

Part of the “Mujina Bandits” arc, this episode borrows quite a bit from the manga, and it’s chock full of action. The bulk of the episode involves Boruto attempting to fight Shojoji.

Boruto discovers that he’s actually battled Shojoji numerous times before, but that the latter was actually disguised as other people during those encounters. Sure that he’s strong enough to take him now, Boruto attacks him repeatedly with a lot of his signature moves, but he can’t take him on alone. Over the course of the battle, Sarada and Mitsuki bail him out – and discover the seal on his hand for the first time. Other people seeing the seal, as well as Shojoji’s capture, start the episodes on the real path to Kara.

13 The Man Who Disappeared S1E58 (8.7)

At the time of these particular IMDb ratings, this is one of the most recent episodes to air, which likely explains its high ranking. With not as many votes as the rest of the list, the ranking might drop, or rise, over time as more people rate the episode.

It is in the middle of the “Kara Actuation” arc, but doesn’t reveal a lot of new information to the audience. Instead, it sends Team Seven to search for a missing person, and ends with a cliffhanger. The person they’re after attacks them with no explanation!

12 Sasuke And Sarada S1E21 (8.7)

The earliest episode to make it into the top ten, this one came right in the middle of an arc for Sarada. In fact, Boruto doesn’t feature in it at all.

Sarada and Chocho tag along with Naruto to a meeting with Sasuke. The former spent her entire childhood wanting to know more about her absent father. When she finally meets up with him, fans don’t quite get the big father-daughter moment they wanted. Instead, that would come later. They do, however, get to see Naruto’s Team Seven reunited when Sakura shows up to help save the day.

11 Rescuing Naruto! S1E64 (8.7)

This episode provides a good combination of new thrills for new fans of the series, and a little nostalgia for fans of Naruto. Boruto joins Sasuke on a mission to rescue his father, but he does it wearing Naruto’s old clothes.

If that bit of nostalgia isn’t enough for you, Sasuke and Boruto aren’t the only ones on the mission. Gaara and the Kages from other nearby lands all travel with Sasuke and Boruto to rescue the Seventh Hokage. The episode has a lot of fan favorite characters in it, and they get to use a lot of their best fighting moves as they go.

10 Urashiki’s Target S1E128 (8.8)

Not only does the episode feature plenty of fan favorites from the original Naruto series, but it features a massive battle against Urashiki which propels the story forward in a big way.

Shikamaru and Sasuke spend the early part of the episode trying to advise Naruto on how best to deal with the threats to the village. While they try their best, Sasuke and Boruto still end up in a fight that has some surprising consequences. They travel to what they think is an alternate dimension thanks to Sasuke’s many eye-related abilities, but the end of the episode reveals they’re actually in the past.

9 Crossing Time! S1E36 (8.8)

Fans of the original series have a lot to love in the “Time Slip” arc of the show. It features Boruto and Sasuke during the years of the Naruto series.

Their battle with Urashiki finally over, Sasuke and Boruto prepare to head home, but they also have to say goodbye to the past versions of different characters. Fan-favorite Jiraiya realizes more than most that those in the past probably know more than they should about the future, and Sasuke makes sure to use his abilities to wipe everyone’s memories.

8 The Iron Sand User: Shinki S1E61 (8.8)

Like the young shinobi graduating from the Academy, the Chunin Exams are one of the fan favorite arcs of the series. Seeing the kids come together from all areas of the shinobi nation to show off their skills is certainly fun.

In this particular episode, Boruto and Sarada face off against Shinki of the Sand Village. While Shinki is the last one standing from the Sand Village, Boruto and Sarada are also the last of the Hidden Leaf. It forces them all to fight their hardest, but it also leads to Boruto using the kote to cheat after Sarada is eliminated from the match.

Of course, this episode also ends in a pretty big cliffhanger as members of the Otsutsuki show up following the match.

7 The Power Of The Nine-Tails S1E31 (8.9)

During the “Time Slip” arc, Sasuke and Boruto find that Urashiki is after Naruto, or more specifically, the chakra of the nine-tailed beast inside of him. That means that Boruto spends a lot of time protecting his young father.

In this episode in particular, Urashiki repeatedly tries to extract Kurama’s chakra, but doesn’t succeed. Boruto and Sasuke fight to protect Naruto, with Boruto even having to talk Naruto down from the first stage of his transformation into the nine-tails. Jiraiya shows up just in time to help and offer to help train Boruto.

6 Jiraiya’s Assignment S1E132 (9.0)

This episode makes good on Jiraiya’s offer to train Boruto. In fact, he decides to train Boruto and Naruto together, attempting to get the two to sync their chakra since he’s noticed that their chakra is so similar.

Boruto’s fear of being attacked by the nine-tails since Naruto doesn’t have control over it tends to stand in the way. Though it makes training difficult, it doesn’t mean they don’t try. Boruto even runs into his uncle Neji, who he never got the chance to meet, and finds himself getting some good advice from him.

5 Kara’s Footprints S1E57 (9.1)

Much like the Naruto series’ investigation of the Akatsuki, the Boruto series’ investigation of Kara is done in bits and pieces over long arcs. This episode begins to show just how deadly the group’s experiments can be.

Sai and Sasuke investigate intelligence of an old hideout for the group. When they do, they run into a man who claims that Kara released deadly gas in the facility, killing all of his friends. As he leads them deeper into the facility, where some areas are still affected by the gas, Sai and Sasuke realize that he killed his friends himself. It makes the duo realize that Kara’s reach is farther than they thought if the group has sympathizers and secret facilities that they’ve already abandoned.

4 Bonds Come In All Shapes S1E23 (9.1)

The last story in Sarada’s search for her identity, “Bonds Come In All Shapes And Sizes” gives fans the chance to see Team Seven in action again, and it gives Sasuke a much-needed relationship with his family.

Sakura manages to punch her way through most of her enemies – after finding out Shin’s plan. In fact, she’s doing pretty well on her own before Naruto, Sasuke, and Sarada catch up with her. After reuniting and heading home, Sakura and Sasuke have a long overdue talk with their daughter. Sakura also declares her intention to become Hokage to Boruto after spending so much time on the mission with Naruto. It’s a chapter in the story that offered a lot of development for Sarada.

3 The Otsutsuki Invasion S1E62 (9.2)

Picking up exactly where episode 61 left off, this episode brought the Otsutsuki into the Boruto series. For fans who saw the movie version of the story, this was the arc they had been waiting for.

The bulk of the episode features a massive fight between the three Otsutsuki and Naruto and Sasuke. While Naruto tries to protect the villagers without shinobi skills, Sasuke is tasked with protecting the children. The fight seems to go pretty well for the bulk of the episode, but it continues into the next. Boruto also finally understands just how much his father cares for him when he experiences his father’s memories through the chakra being used to protect the village.

2 The Village Hidden In The Leaves S1E29 (9.4)

Half of the “Time Slip” episodes make it into the best of the series, but this is ranked as the best of that entire arc. It’s the first episode in which Sasuke and Boruto have to work to blend into the Konohagakure of the past.

Boruto tries to befriend Naruto rather quickly, while Sasuke tries to avoid making waves by doing things like avoiding being anywhere near teenage Sakura. This allows Boruto the chance to get to know his father as a kid, but it also means that there’s less questioning why someone who looks exactly like an Uchiha is in the village when everyone in the clan is gone.

1 Father And Child S1E65 (9.8)

Centered on the leader of the new generation and the leader of the old generation, it’s no surprise that this particular episode ranks so highly. After dozens of episodes that see Boruto at odds with his father, “Father And Child” sees the two of them finally understand one another and work together to save the day.

Though a team up between Naruto and Sasuke does most of the work to defeat Momoshiki, it’s Naruto sharing his power with Boruto that allows his son to finish the enemy. This is also the episode that leads off the major mystery for the next run of the series as Momoshiki imparts a mysterious seal on Boruto before he passes.
