Mary-Kate isn’t the only one in the Olsen family to suffer from a debilitating condition. Ashley suffers from Lyme disease, and while it sounds harmless, it is, in fact, a very serious disease that can have life-threatening consequences if left untreated.

At the time of Heath Ledger’s tragic demise, word got out that Mary-Kate Olsen was actually seeing the Australian actor. The longtime friends had been seeing each other for months, although they kept things quiet and apparently had no plans of outing themselves as a couple.

11 Ashley Had A Lift That Went Terribly Wrong

It’s no wonder so many stars go under the knife and get touch-ups to keep looking fresh-faced. While both the Olsen twins have had cosmetic preparations done, things didn’t go to plan when Ashley got a facelift. Ashley had a bad reaction to the treatment and her face went black and blue and swelled up. She went to the doctor and discovered she was suffering from necrosis, a side effect of cosmetic surgery whereby the tissue in the skin doesn’t get enough blood and begins to die. The condition is easily treatable, with Ashley enduring oxygen therapy conducted using a hyperbaric chamber. Within a week she was back to her normal looking self, although I’m not sure I’d be getting any more surgery after an experience like that.
10 The Twins Refused To Be In Fuller House
Remakes and sequels are all the rage these days so it’s not surprising the cast of Full House wanted a piece of the action. Led by John Stamos, the gang got back together for the Netflix series Fuller House, all except for Mary-Kate and Ashley that is. While everyone involved had high hopes the twins would reprise their role of Michelle Tanner for the show, it wasn’t to be. Executive producer Bob Boyett said Ashley told him she hasn’t “been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don’t feel comfortable acting,” while Mary-Kate said, “It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.”
It turns out the absence of the Olsen’s hasn’t mattered. Although the first season was savaged by critics the next two have been praised, so much so that a fourth is set to air this year.
9 The Olsen Twins Aren’t Fans Of Online Shopping
For us mere mortals, one of the easiest and cheapest ways to purchase goods is online. You don’t have to deal with crowds or pushy sales people and can score bargains from the comfort of your home. But for the Olsen’s, shopping online is a big no-no. Talking with Vogue, Mary-Kate said, “I’ve never purchased anything online.” Ashley went one step further explaining, “I would agree. I prefer to see, touch, feel, and experience.”
I guess if you’re buying expensive pieces of clothing or art it makes sense to want to see it in the flesh, but I find it hard to believe the twins haven’t had the urge to grab an item online at least once in their lives.
8 They Have A Non-Famous Brother
Mary-Kate and Ashley’s sister Elizabeth is making a name for herself on the big screen but unbeknownst to many, the Olsen sisters also have an older brother. Trent Olsen might not be a familiar face to most but he did appear in many of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s films during their youth, including 1995’s You’re Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Sleepover Party.
But his foray into acting was short lived.
Trent graduated from the University of Southern California and got a job working as a writer for Storm King Productions, a publisher specializing in horror and science fiction work. Trent has contributed to many successful publications for the company and even got his name used as part of his sister’s new clothing line called Elizabeth and James.
7 No Beef With Full House Cast
Earlier in this article, I mentioned how the Olsen twins decided to not be part of the Full House reunion. While most accepted their reasons, tabloid magazines and newspapers hinted at an ulterior motive. Many assumed the Olsen’s believed they were too big to go back to the show and the original cast didn’t want them involved. Other rumors included the Olsen’s not being approached about Fuller House, John Stamos making negative remarks about the twins, and their younger sister Elizabeth taking on the role of Michelle Tanner.
This has all turned out to be false.
The Olsen’s still got along well with their fellow cast members but just decided it wasn’t the right move for them. I’m glad it’s finally all out in the open and everyone still gets along well, leaving the door slightly ajar for a surprise return from the twins in season four.
6 Mary-Kate Had A Very Weird Wedding
When Mary-Kate announced her engagement to banker Olivier Sarkozy, 17 years her senior, not many people thought it would last. How wrong they were. Now happily married for three years, it seems the two were meant for each other, but there’s one thing that many people are still intrigued about; the wedding. Hardly anybody outside of those invited knows what actually went on during their nuptials. No public photos were released, neither have any leaked due to no cell phones being allowed during the event. An insider revealed around 50 people attended and there were bowls of cigarettes on tables people smoked all night. None of Mary-Kate’s Full House castmates were invited either, with only immediate family and close friends in attendance. While we will never know exactly what happened during the wedding I’m sure it was a memorable event for all involved.
