Some of the most iconic and beloved creatures in Pokémon are the starters. These are the first Pokémon a player gets in their journey, and many trainers keep them on their teams till the end of the game. These Pokémon help demonstrate the evolution mechanics in the games and every one has a full three-stage evolution chain.

If Pokémon suddenly became real, some of these starters would be great to have around. Starters, especially in their first form, are often friendly gregarious. But some starters, especially as they evolve, would cause more trouble than good in the real world.

10 Should Exist: Chikorita Is Like A Houseplant And A Friend

The Grass type starter from Pokémon Gold and Silver, Chikorita is basically a walking houseplant. Its very first Pokédex entry states, “A sweet aroma gently wafts from the leaf on its head. It is docile and loves to soak up the sun’s rays.” Later entries in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl say that it uses the leaf to determine the temperature and humidity. As it evolves, it gains the ability to calm aggressive feelings and even revive dead grass and plants.

9 Should Not Exist: Snivy Becomes A Solar Powered Murder Snake

Like many starter Pokémon, Snivy starts life as an innocuous little creature but soon becomes much more frightening. Snivy’s Pokédex entries all focus on its ability to photosynthesize with its leafy body. But when it finally becomes a Serperior, things get scary. “it can stop its opponents’ movements with just a glare. It takes in solar energy and boosts it internally.” The idea of a 10-foot long serpent capable of paralyzing with a glance and powered by the pure power of the sun should be enough to terrify even the boldest of Pokémon fans.

8 Should Exist: Scorbunny Is As Safe As Fire Types Can Be

Fire types are a dangerous proposition when it comes to bringing Pokémon into the real world. They are often capable of generating temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees and would be quite dangerous to be around.

Scorbunny and its evolutions Raboot and Scorbunny are perhaps the safest Fire types to have in the real world. They use their soccer skills just as much as they use their fire powers, constantly playing with pebbles and berries as if they were soccer balls.

7 Should Not Exist: Sobble Hides Deadly Power Behind A Pathetic Exterior

Sobble may seem sweet, and indeed it comes off as rather pitiful. But the Water type starter from Pokémon Sword and Shield uses a harmless facade to conceal a frightening monster. Its Pokémon Sword Pokédex entry says that “its tears pack the chemical punch of 100 onions, and attackers won’t be able to resist weeping.” It soon evolves into Drizzile, which “keeps enemies out of its territory by laying traps everywhere.” Finally, Inteleon has nictitating membranes that “let it pick out foes’ weak points so it can precisely blast them with water that shoots from its fingertips at Mach 3.” This little lizard is like a walking armory, dangerous to everyone around it.

6 Should Exist: Popplio Is A Sweet Companion

This Water type starter, first introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon, is inspired by seals and sea lions performing in circuses. In a somewhat disgusting display, it creates bubbles from its nose, using them to perform tricks and play games. In its second form, Brionne, it “cares deeply for its companions. When its trainer is feeling down, it performs a cheery dance to try and help,” according to its Pokémon Moon Pokédex entry. Being able to hang out with a sweet and caring seal would be well worth any stray snot.

5 Should Not Exist: Pikachu Is Beyond Deadly

Pikachu is the most famous Pokémon, hands down. It is cute, charming, and makes a fantastic mascot for the Pokémon franchise. But digging a little deeper, it becomes clear that Pikachu is not as unthreatening as it may seem. Its Pokémon Ruby Pokédex entry reads “Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt of electricity.”

Its very first Pokédex entry reads “When several of these Pokémon gather, their electricity could build and cause lightning storms.” Pikachu constantly shocks his friends as well as his enemies in the Pokémon anime. Giving the electrical output of a powerplant to a capricious mouse seems like a recipe for absolute disaster.

4 Should Exist: Eevee Is A Scientific Marvel

Alongside Pikachu, Eevee is one of only two starter Pokémon that deviate from the Grass-Fire-Water cycle. Eevee is the starter given to players in Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and can evolve into one of seven different forms. Eevee has an unstable genetic makeup that allows it to alter its body to match its surroundings by evolving into different types. Eevee’s variability would make it fascinating to study, as well as just being fun to have around.

3 Should Not Exist: Litten Has A Bad Attitude That Only Grows Worse

In many ways, this Pokémon Sun and Moon starter is like a real cat. Its Pokémon Moon Pokédex entry reads, “It doesn’t allow its emotions to be easily seen. Earning its trust takes time. It prefers solitude.” Pokémon Shield takes things even further, saying that “Trying to pet Litten before it trusts you will result in a nasty scratch from its sharp claws.

Be careful.” This kind of behavior is one thing for a Pokémon standing just a foot tall. But when it evolves into Incineroar, things get much worse. Pokemon Sun’s Pokédex entry says that it “has a violent, selfish disposition.” Inciniroar’s temper, along with its ability to produce flames over 3,600 degrees, make it a frightening prospect.

2 Should Exist: Treecko Has The Potential To Save The Planet

Treecko is cool, calm, and collected, according to its Pokémon Sapphire Pokédex entry. As it evolves, it grows in speed and might, quickly becoming a powerful apex predator. It is somewhat scary to imagine a Sceptile dashing through the jungle with deadly agility. But it also has a softer side. Sceptile’s Pokémon Emerald Pokédex entry says “This Pokémon carefully grows trees and plants.” A powerful, compassionate, and brave jungle creature capable of regrowing old trees and plants could be just what the planet needs right now.

1 Should Not Exist: Rowlet Are All Doomed

Rowlet should not exist, not for the world’s sake but for its own. The Pokémon franchise has always been aimed towards kids, which makes the Ghost type kind of touchy. It’s one thing to have entire Pokémon lines being spirits of long-dead creatures, its quite another to have a Pokémon become a Ghost type part way through its evolution line. Rowlet evolves into Dartrix, which in turn evolves into the Ghost type Decidueye. This final evolution implies that every Rowlet must die to attain its final form.
