6 Biggest Additions to Pokemon Legends Arceus In The Daybreak Update

When Pokemon Legends: Arceus launched, it already provided enough content to provide dozens of hours of gameplay. Between tackling the story and sidequests, completing the Pokedex entry for each Pokemon, creating the best team a player possibly could, and maybe even catching several shiny Pokemon, it’s probably the most expansive and ambitious Pokemon title yet. However, even more content was added for free in the form of the Daybreak update.

It isn’t just a few glitch fixes and minor new quests for players to spend a few minutes on. Instead, it adds a plethora of new additions, ranging from small yet helpful quality of life changes to entirely new curious storylines and fiendishly challenging battle modes. Here are the most significant additions the update brought to the game.

Spoiler alert: this article contains in-depth detail on late- and post-game content.

6 Massive Outbreaks

To unlock most of the new content in the Daybreak update, the player must first finish a quest where they look into a new phenomenon occurring in the Hisui region. They’ll meet Mai in the Obsidian Fieldlands, who asks the player to figure out why her Munchlax has been acting strangely and trying to go to a distant island.

In the process of doing so, the player will uncover a new in-game event called a Massive Outbreak, which functions similarly to Mass Outbreaks. However, while a Mass Outbreak only features one large group of Pokemon, multiple hordes of the critters will spawn during a Massive Outbreak. While they’re in progress, players can encounter rare Pokemon and even entire packs of those powerhouse Alpha Pokemon. It’s a daunting prospect. The player will then have to investigate one of these dramatic outbreaks in each area of the game to uncover the truth behind their sudden appearance.

5 The Path of Solitude

Once the Daybreak request has been completed, the player can then take on more new challenges. If they visit Ingo at the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village (home to seven of those pesky Wisps), they now have access to two new challenge modes. One of them is the Path of Solitude. True to its name, this mode will see you select a solitary Pokemon out of your party to face a specific opponent –or, in a few rare cases, a team– that’s specifically bred to be the ultimate challenge for your chosen partner.

Because of this, it will be vital to make sure your Pokemon is high-leveled and knows moves that are super effective against types that have an advantage over them. Once a battle has been won, a special mark will be added to that Pokemon’s Pokedex entry. There is a specific battle for every species in the game, so this mode is sure to add many more hours of gameplay for players who are completionists. This will push even veterans of Pokemon battles to their limits.

4 The Path of Tenacity

The other new battle mode is called the Path of Tenacity. Here, players have the choice of fighting against three teams of three opponents. They can either be from the Diamond Clan, the Pearl Clan, or the Galaxy Team. While it isn’t a perfect match, it is almost this game’s version of the Elite Four.

While the battles against the clans won’t be too difficult, the fighters on the Galaxy Team are formidable opponents. You can’t heal between battles, so be sure to have Max Revives in your inventory if possible. As a reward for beating these brawls, the player will receive an evolutionary item and a form of Exp. Candy. In addition, you can now challenge Ingo, Ress, Adaman, and Irida in the regular battles Ingo offers.

3 An Expanded Photo Studio

The Daybreak update has now given players the ability to take photos with characters that they have met during the game’s storyline. This includes Professor Laventon, Sabi, Lady Cogita, and many more. One random character will be lounging in the lobby at any given time, and will ask if the player wants to take a photo with them. It’s a fun inclusion that cements the game’s place among other titles that have engaging photo modes.

You can then change your character’s pose, the background screen, and the lens before taking a photo with your friend. To further boost the functionality of this feature, after the photoshoot, players can then go to the photo app on their Nintendo Switch and send the image directly to their smartphone, or post it on a connected Twitter or FaceBook account.

2 The Ultimate Balloon Race Has Been Added To The Coronet Highlands

Unlike other new additions to the game, unlocking the new Balloon Race doesn’t require the player to complete the Daybreak request. Instead, they need to have finished the post-game tasks that ended with the player taking on Volo and the engimatic and fearsome Giratina. In addition, they need to have beaten the other three Balloon Races.

The NPC who runs the race can be found at the camp next to the Moonview Arena. The challenge involves racing through the cliffs on the backs of every ridable Pokemon and popping multiple Drifloon-inspired balloons. It’s a steep new challenge for those who have enjoyed these races. Luckily, to complete the request for the race, the player doesn’t need to get a perfect score. They only need to pop 40 balloons for it to be considered finished.

1 The Eternal Battle Reverie

After catching every Pokemon in the game and completing the Deified Pokemon mission and the Daybreak request, the player will unlock one more challenge. To begin, they need to return to their room and go to sleep.

When they wake up in a dream state, the almighty Legendary Pokemon Arceus will give them specific battle challenges to take on. They can be teams of one to three and the enemies can range from a simple Bidoof to the Legendary Arceus itself. While there are only 50 battle scenarios, the mode can go on as long as the player can keep their team members from fainting.
