Mother knows best. Or does she? 90 Day Fiancé has always seen the show’s mothers add their fair share of drama to the couples’ lives. 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’s Janice is no different. Ariela’s mother while accompanying her pregnant daughter in Ethiopia, has been raising doubts about her boyfriend in her mind.
90 Day Fiancé couple Ariela and Biniyam met while she hailed a cab during her solo trip to Addis Ababa. The 29-year-old American writer fell for the 28-year-old dancer Biniyam instantly and soon became pregnant with their child. Biniyam had a murky past with his American ex-wife having abandoned him, taking their son along, and Ariela, on the other hand, was fresh off a divorce. The Princeton, New Jersey, resident decided to give birth in Ethiopia, with Biniyam “Baby Cool” by her side but her mother Janice accompanied her, wary of the African’s intentions. His living conditions which were sup-par and his strange back story with an American ex-wife showed Janice nothing but red flags. The recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way saw her reenact the famous hypnosis scene from Get Out as she accused Biniyam of being after the coveted green card.
Janice made her doubts against Biniyam visible to 90 Day Fiancé viewers as she questioned him about his previous marriage. Biniyam faced a language barrier but said something about his ex-wife Bria leaving him after she saw him texting his old girlfriends. Biniyam later put up an Instagram story where he clarified that the message was just a “Hi,” but an exclusive clip retrieved by ET tells otherwise. In the preview for the next episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Biniyam is accompanied by Ariela and mother Janice at the local club where he performs every night. Janice is quick to ask Ariela how much money he makes from dancing at a club like that but Ariela dismisses her question with, “I don’t know exactly, you’ll have to ask him.” The clip cuts to Biniyam’s confessional where he says, “Between me and Ari, for jealousy and those things to not happen, from my previous life, I want to show my dance to Ari and her mother.” But in true 90 Day Fiancé fashion, the exact opposite happens.
As Biniyam dances provocatively with his partner on the dance floor, Janice turns to Ariela and asks her who the woman is. “His ex-girlfriend,” reveals Ariela before adding that she doesn’t know how long ago Biniyam dated her. “Oh my God, she is really cute,” exclaims Janice and Ariela says, “Thanks Mom, you’re supposed to be on my side.” Although Janice assures her daughter that she is on her side, she also stirs the pot by saying, “Better watch out Ari. Especially when he’s dancing at night and you’re home alone.”
90 Day Fiancé fans have been calling Ariela’s mother out online by saying things like she’s been planting seeds of doubt in her pregnant daughter’s mind. A fan wrote how drawing Ariela’s attention to Biniyam’s alleged infidelity, could be Janice’s tactic to make her daughter go back to America. Many agree that it was Ariela’s decision, being an adult to move to Ethiopia and her mother should be respecting it. Ariela surely knew about Biniyam’s living conditions when she started dating him, and the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star had also informed her about his previous marriage. But knowing how things on the popular TLC show usually pan out, can one ever really predict a happy ending?
