Masters Of The Universe: Revelations has revived the famous He-Man franchise and brought it to both the old and a new audience. The character designs have been updated thanks to modern animation styles, with many of these heroes and villains looking better than they ever have done before.
Whether it’s the clearer lines, brighter colors, new concepts, or perhaps a unique homage to the original, these character designs really help to bring the show to life. While almost all of them are replicating something from the past, they are completely iconic in this latest series of Masters Of The Universe.
10 Battle Cat
Battle Cat is a classic design and his slightly updated armor is definitely something to behold. The jagged edges give him a more dangerous side to his look, but underneath these bold spikey shapes is a relatively similar characterization to what fans are familiar with.
Although the colors have been updated to pop a little more, there’s not much else that could be done with Battle Cat, considering he is a green tiger with orange stripes. Regardless, it’s a design that will continue to stand the test of time, with the viciousness of his transformation translating well on screen.
9 Andra
Andra’s design is all about practicality and living the life of a warrior. While the weaponry she picks up along the way is very impressive, the costume itself is hugely memorable because of its grittiness, and camouflage-styled colors. Immediately this is a character designed for combat.
So much can be said in a costume and it’s clear that this is a woman who has had to fight all of her life. When she is named Lieutenant her costume improves ever so slightly, but she is still comfortable in her familiar armor, demonstrating she remains the same no matter how high she rises. Andra’s intelligence is reflected in its practicality.
8 The Sorceress
The Sorceress is of course a legacy character but the design was changed up a little. The basic bird-like elements were kept, but some of the colors were changed, with the outfit getting a more graceful overhaul. It appears as if magic radiates from the clothing itself.
The design here is much more ethereal than before, which works well for the character. The headpiece is no longer laughable, but alongside the shoulder pads seems to represent power. The winged cape is a little more practical here, no longer seeming as if the Sorceress is about to take flight. It’s a striking and fantastical display of design.
7 Beast Man
Beast Man is one of the most monstrous creatures in He-Man and a memorable villain thanks to his sheer size and presence on screen. The character has been given these ferocious fangs and war paint that demonstrates his commitment to violence.
Yet there’s some culture there to his makeup and the way he ties up his hair, indicating something replicated from his people. The character’s redesign is far more realistic than was originally portrayed, with him becoming more muscle than grizzly fur.
6 Orko
Orko’s mysticism is added to in Masters Of The Universe: Revelations after his disappearance and re-emergence as Orko The White. Obviously a nod to Gandalf, the costume gets an upgrade as the magic courses through the white and red material.
Even before that shift, the costume felt a little more based in the fantasy world, while also keeping some of the mystery as to what’s beneath that cloak and hat. What was once a comical design has been elevated into something far more fitting of this universe.
5 Man-At-Arms
Man-At-Arms was almost cartoonish in the original show, boasting armor that had an array of cheesy weapons strapped to him. His suit has been weathered in the years since and the grizzled veteran wears this suit with even more pride than he once did.
The design of Man-At-Arms shows that he is tired of war but also demonstrates his ability to fight his way out of a corner. The helmet is still a little bit over-the-top, but the rest of the armor has be toned down enough that there’s some legitimacy to the look.
4 Teela
Teela’s design shifts across the series, as she initially arrives in her more traditional costume before evolving into something far more practical. She ends her time in Masters Of The Universe as the new sorceress and has a fitting suit of armor to match.
This is a combination of her looks, alongside the original Sorceress, with the bird imagery. It’s both fantastical and warrior-esque, with the gold plating adding to the status of the character and the magical nature of her new abilities. It’s a striking piece of design that carries with it the weight of war and conjuring.
3 Skeletor
Skeletor is one of the most iconic villains in all of pop culture. There’s not much that can be done with a design this good. For most of the show, the team behind the Netflix series stuck to a concept that fans were familiar with; until he gained the sword of power that is.
A boosted Skeletor was even scarier, with a skull-like helmet, larger armor, and a more intimidating size. It was an impressive display of strength and power once Skeletor was boosted by the sword and served as a great entry in Masters Of The Universe lore in regards to what the character would look like in this form.
2 He-Man
He-Man’s design has changed even less than most, but he’s simply been given modern animation textures and a slightly more realistic use of coloring and materials. There’s really nothing that could be done with the look as it’s just so memorable.
Although he does hulk-out at one stage, the Tarzan-type imagery is used sparingly. Additional jewels on the body piece have helped to bring it to life a little more, and the golden elements sell the idea that not only is this a prince of power, but a prince at all.
1 Evil-Lyn
Evil-Lyn has been drastically changed in both her appearance and personality. The character has been developed far more than any others in the series and her costume reflects that, becoming so much more than a background foe with a relatively simple design.
Dark energy radiates from this witch, who also gets a turn with the sword of power, increasing her look into something quite incredible. The magical orb that she uses to channel her gift continues to be as mysterious as needed, as the blue tones offer up something unique in her clothing compared to other villains.
