As part of The Pokemon Company’s overarching Local Acts Initiative, The Pokemon Company has announced the creation of a series of Chansey-themed parks in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture. The first of these planned parks will open in Namie Town this upcoming December with a further three Pokemon parks planned for 2022.
As part of its Local Acts Initiative, The Pokemon Company has assigned a series of different Pokemon to some of Japan’s Prefectures such as Hokkaido, Iwate, and Fukushima. Through events, unique items, and even Pokemon-themed manhole covers, this initiative aims to combine local landmarks and the famous company. These Pokemon ambassadors have been put in place to help promote tourism through highlighting both the country’s well-known and more obscure sites.
This recent announcement will bring Pokemon fans much closer to Chansey, one of the rare Pokemon that can heal themselves, than ever before. These parks are set to host a number of Chansey slides, swings, and a number of other typical playground fixtures. From this first Chansey playground in Namie Town, the Pokemon Company will be creating a further three similarly-themed parks in Koriyama City, Yanaizu Town, and Showa Village. Construction of the next park will begin in the spring of 2022 and go on from there. Since Chansey was announced the ambassador for Fukushima, Japan’s third largest prefecture, back in February 2019, fans of that Pokemon have been able to purchase special themed-goods from The Pokemon Company.
These themed parks are likely a sign of things to come for the ambassador Pokemon of Japan. This list currently includes Geodude, Lapras, a pair of Sandshrews and Vulpix, and Slowpoke across a number of Prefectures. The announcement of these Chansey-themed playgrounds, bodes well for the Pokemon Local Acts of Initiative. It seems that this initiative works similarly to Pokemon GO and emphasizes bringing people outside and getting them involved in this world as well as the Pokemon universe.
This commitment to constructing four parks in Fukushima is a good sign that The Pokemon Company will continue to invest in bringing attention to the notable locations and features of localities across Japan. The Pokemon franchise remains popular and using an incredibly recognizable brand to shine a light on important local sights is a strong attempt to boost tourism to these areas.
That being said, The Pokemon Company creating parks across Fukushima isn’t without benefit to the company itself. The more brand recognition and the more places that people associate with Pokemon, the better for that company. But, at the end of the day, there will be four more playgrounds for locals and visitors to enjoy.
