Adventure Time: Distant Lands, HBO Max’s anthology-style spinoff of the hit Cartoon Network show, has released a trailer for its second installment – “Obsidian” – starring Princess Bubblegum and Marceline. Distant Lands’ first hour-long special, “BMO,” premiered on the streaming platform in June. The episode provided the backstory for the titular fan-favorite character through a series of space adventures.

The new special follows Bubblegum and Marceline’s adventures after canonically renewing their romance at the end of the original show. The trailer shows the two on a journey to the Glass Kingdom, where a monstrous dragon has awoken to terrorize the residents. Marceline is summoned to protect the Kingdom and reconnects with some pieces of her past along the way. She also fights the dragon with her signature bass, which is pretty punk rock. While “BMO” was a hit with fans of the original show, the promise of more Bubblegum and Marceline in “Obsidian” has made it even more hotly anticipated. The relationship between the two was shipped for years by fans, who celebrated the confirmation of their romance after the series finale. That confirmation was also critiqued, as many lgbtq+ relationships in similar shows have been, for waiting until the last minute to make it canon. For fans who felt that frustration, the new special promises a fuller picture of “Bubbline” with more substance. Adventure Time: Distant Lands – Obsidian debuts on HBO Max on November 19.
