AHS Murder House Theory Constance Is Related To A Supreme

There are numerous fan theories surrounding American Horror Story, especially in relation to members of the Langdon family, but one theory in particular suggests that Constance (Jessica Lange) might be related to a Supreme witch. Series creator Ryan Murphy is known for including several hints and clues in each season of his horror anthology. Because of this, it is quite possible that a mention of the Delongpre name links AHS: Murder House with AHS: Coven, which is how the theory began.

The series premiered in 2011 with the Harmon family moving into the infamous murder house, where the spirits of those who died on the property are confined to the location for all eternity. Their neighbor, Constance Langdon, moved to Los Angeles from Virginia with the hopes of becoming a movie star, but her career never took off. Instead, she raised four children: Tate (Evan Peters), Beauregard (Sam Kinsey), Adelaide (Jamie Brewer), and Rose (Raina Matheson). Tate fathers the Anti-Christ, Michael (Cody Fern), who is first seen as a child in the final episode of season 1. Prior to the reveal that he was evil, even as a child, Constance goes to the hairdresser where she tells the stylist that she is caring for a distant relative’s child. Their last name happens to be DeLongpre, directly tying her to AHS: Coven’s flapper era Supreme Mimi Delongpre.

It is entirely plausible that this was an early effort on Murphy’s part to connect each season on one cohesive timeline, but it does not have very much evidentiary support and heavily relies on the fact that both Lange and Brewer return in season 3. Along with the proposed theory that she is related to the Delongpres, it also speculates that Constance has powers of her own. With several possibilities that could link their bloodlines, here’s exactly what the theory proposes and how plausible it could be that Constance Langdon is related to the Supreme, Mimi DeLongpre.

Constance’s Connection To Mimi DeLongpre Explained

AHS Murder House Theory Constance Is Related To A Supreme

The primary source of evidence that could make Constance related to Mimi DeLongpre is the fact that she knows the woman’s last name and states that they are relatives of hers. While this in itself could’ve been enough for Ryan Murphy to confirm the season 1 character’s connection, there are several reasons why they could not be related based on the Supreme’s history. Mimi’s sole location is New Orleans; it’s never mentioned that she has relatives in Virginia. She was the Supreme from the late 19th century until 1940, when Anna Leigh Leighton came into power. She is often recognized in the coven for having a major role in taking down the Axeman of New Orleans. While she enjoyed a glamorous lifestyle, there is no proof that she ever relocated to California.

While this makes their connection highly improbable, there are other factors that could support this theory. The Delongpres are distant cousins according to Constance, which could mean that Mimi is a great-aunt or even a cousin several times removed. They could be blood related, but they could also be related by marriage. American Horror Story bloodlines are complex, and Murphy keeps them fairly ambiguous. For instance, theories about AHS: Coven’s Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and her relation to Charles Montgomery of AHS: Murder House have never been confirmed or denied. The fan theorist also proposed that Nan, portrayed by Brewer, is Adelaide’s twin sister, as Constance’s fourth child was not revealed until AHS: Apocalypse. Since season 8 remedied this plot hole, this proposition is completely void. The only true shreds of evidence are Constance’s mention of the Delongpre name and her supposed powers.

Constance & Her Children May Have Powers

AHS Murder House Theory Constance Is Related To A Supreme

According to the fan theory, Constance has powers similar to the witches in AHS: Coven. Due to the fact that she always knew what was happening in the murder house despite not baring witness, it’s assumed she had the power to either read minds like Nan, the ability to transport into various rooms, or clairvoyance. It may be possible that she is a strong clairvoyant, which would explain her bond with Billie Dean Howard (Sarah Paulson), but there is no true evidence of these powers in the series.

If Constance does come from a strong bloodline of witches, it’s suspected that Tate has powers. This portion of the theory is drawn from his paternal relationship to the Anti-Christ, who was created by the living and the dead. If he is a witch, it means that the Holy Trinity was defiled entirely. It is believed that Christianity’s Anti-Christ will be fathered by the devil and a promiscuous virgin. Vivian is not a virgin and Tate is not the devil, but if he is a witch, he is presumably tied to demonic forces. Proposing that Tate or any of the other Langdon children have any sort of supernatural powers besides those they have in the afterlife is far too complex to be truthful. Furthermore, there is no evidence that they’ve ever had any abilities.

Why The Langdons Are Not Descendants Of The DeLongpres

Ultimately, the Langdon family is not related to Mimi DeLongpre. If they were, it is likely that Constance would have mentioned her distant relatives from New Orleans rather than Virginia. While every minute detail Murphy includes in American Horror Story serves a greater purpose, it is possible that the DeLongpre name was solely mentioned to cover up the fact that Constance took Vivian and Tate’s baby. It is unknown how she was able to come up with it, but it may be possible that she heard it through the grapevine, as witches were tied to the Hotel Cortez in AHS: Hotel or Billie Dean somehow contacted her with the hope that the Supreme could lend assistance to the malevolent spirits of the murder house.

The theory does not hold up whatsoever, but it is an interesting one regardless. It would be incredible if Murphy were able to tie in the Langdons with the DeLongpres, especially in season 10. Due to the fact that the showrunner has not released an actual theme for the upcoming season, the only hints that were given to audiences were through its poster art. It seems that season 10 will take place in Massachusetts, where the Salem Witch Trials took place; it’s also the presumed home state of Mimi DeLongpre. Murphy recently stated that characters from previous seasons will not return, which allows for the Langdon-DeLongpre bloodline to become a reality in the American Horror Story universe. Until then, Constance’s blood ties to Mimi DeLongpre remain nonexistent.
