Ami Brown is the 57-year-old matriarch of the Brown Family, who are stars of the Discovery Channel reality TV show, Alaskan Bush People. Here is everything you need to know about this unconventional mother of seven.

Alaskan Bush People began airing in 2014 and follows the unusual lives of the Browns, who chose to live off of the wild Alaskan land without contact from the outside world. They just wrapped their 12th season of the show, which found the family, nicknamed the Wolf Pack, bracing the harsh winter conditions after their move to Washington.

According to Discovery, in 1979, Ami Brown became the second wife of Billy Brown when she was just 15 and he was 26. She ran away from her home in Texas and left to start a new life with Billy before graduating high school. Ami became estranged from her family, going over three decades without seeing them. A few years after marrying, she had her oldest son Matthew at 18, later having four more sons and two daughters. Fans have noted that while Ami and Billy are from Texas, their children all have unique accents due to their isolation in the wilderness. Her children’s names are Matthew, Joshua (Bam Bam), Solomon (Bear), Gabriel, Noah, Amora (Birdy), and Rainy. She also became a grandma in 2019, and now has three grandkids, baby Eli, Sophie, and River.

In July of this year, Ami Brown’s older brother tragically passed away from his years-long battle with cancer at age 66. Ami also had a battle with cancer. She was diagnosed back in 2017 with Stage III lung cancer and was given only a 3% chance of survival, but is now in remission after undergoing a series of treatments.

Ami and Billy raised their seven children in the Alaskan bush, but back in 2018, they moved to Okanogan County, Washington while Ami sought treatment. They have since bought over 400 acres of land to build their own isolated community called Browntown, the pair’s dream since they first married. However, tragedy struck their land earlier this year when wildfires destroyed much of their property, though thankfully, no one was harmed. The family still has plans to rebuild and make their dream of Browntown a reality.

Ami has spent a majority of her life surviving off the land with her family, and she is most passionate about gardening. She is is given authority on everything from where to plant vegetables to which flowers should be grown. She also serves as the family’s navigator aboard boats, as she studies navigation techniques in her free time. In addition to gardening and navigating, Ami also acted as teacher for each of her seven children. Though Ami Brown and the Wolf Pack have faced many obstacles over the years, they still remain hopeful that they can maintain their lifestyle off the grid in Washington.
