Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ online features have generally been stable in terms of connection and smoothness of gameplay. However, the game’s online component recently experienced a minor hitch when its online services briefly went down over the weekend.

As per Animal Crossing World, the period of downtime for Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ servers was rather unpredicted. As such, the downtime likely had nothing to do with an update, patch, or anything of that nature. Further, since the servers have gone back up, there has been no apparent update or patch to be seen in-game.

The server downtime occurred over the weekend, which was a shame for anyone hoping to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons after a stressful week of work. Previously, Nintendo’s website had said that difficulties were being had with Nintendo’s servers and apologized for the inconvenience.

However, now that everything appears to be up and running, the website states that all servers are working as expected.

While the game’s focus isn’t its online elements, the server downtime had closed off access to visiting others’ islands, using the Best Friends App, sending mail via the Airport on the island, and using the Design Portal.

As mentioned, the life simulator isn’t online intensive, though the ability to visit other Animal Crossing: New Horizons players’ islands is one of the game’s best elements. It gives players ideas as to how to best manage and maintain their islands and offers a glimpse at the randomization of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ islands.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons still continues to dominate as one of the most successful Nintendo Switch games, as well as one of the most successful games of 2020. The game has reached such a degree of success that it has now surpassed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokémon Sword & Shield in Japan in terms of sales.

With Nintendo’s servers up once again, players can utilize all the features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Managing your own island is fun and all, but visiting others’ islands for ideas makes the game even more enjoyable.
