Super Smash Bros. Ultimate added Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to its laundry list of fighters on March 4. These additions to the roster were accompanied by new stages, more Smash Bros. Mii Fighter costumes, and surprisingly extensive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 11.0.0 update balance changes to existing characters. All in all, 15 fighters’ moves were buffed and nerfed, either giving them a boost or reducing how effective they are in battle.

Nintendo included very few changes to Smash Ultimate’s characters with the previous DLC character released, Final Fantasy 7’s Sephiroth. This led many fans to believe the company was pleased with the current state of the game and would be more conservative with changes moving forward. The tweaks that came with Pyra and Mythra’s release suggest otherwise.

A handful of weaker fighters were given boosts, while those typically at the top of Smash Ulitmate tier lists were nerfed. Here’s every change made to Nintendo’s platform fighter by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 11.0.0 patch.

A total of nine characters received favorable changes, most of which were small tweaks to make specific moves work slightly better. However, Pichu and Fire Emblem’s Byleth walked away with the best buffs. The changes should allow Pichu players to live longer before getting KO’d, and Byleth’s heavy-hitting moves hit even harder now.

Captain Falcon & Ganondorf

  • Both fighters have less vulnerability after hitting an opponent with their Up Special, allowing them to act immediately after the attack lands.

Pichu

  • While all of Pichu’s electric attacks still also deal damage to Pichu, Nintendo decreased the self-damage of Pichu’s Side Smash, Forward Aerial, Forward Throw, Side Special, and Up Special.
  • Pichu’s ears are now invincible during its Neutral Air Attack, making the move harder to contest.

King Dedede

  • King Dedede can act more quickly after doing his Side Special, the move’s Gordo projectile is more likely to stick itself onto a wall, and King Dedede can send back Gordos that have been reflected faster.

Little Mac

  • The hitbox on Little Mac’s Up Smash lasts longer.

Mii Gunner

  • Mii Gunner’s Side Smash’s attack range was increased.

Byleth

  • Byleth’s Down Smash’s launch distance was increased.
  • Byleth’s Down Aerial launches farther and does more damage to shields.
  • Byleth can act faster after using their Side Special in the air. The tip of the attack causes more shield stun after enemies block it.
  • Their Up Special comes out faster and launches farther when grabbing enemies in the air.

Steve

  • Increased attack range on Steve’s Down Smash.

Sephiroth

  • Made it easier for Sephiroth’s Down Special to hit multiple times.

Six characters received nerfs, most of which are considered some of the best characters in Smash Ultimate. Palutena was hit the hardest, as the change to her long grab range made it more difficult to execute a back throw, a reliable KO option for her at the ledge.

Zero Suit Samus

  • Zero Suit Samus can’t act as quikcly when she lands with her Neutral Aerial.
  • Her Up Special comes out slower.

Wario

  • The hitbox for Wario’s Up Tilt lasts a shorter time.
  • Wario’s third-level and fully-charged Down Special come out slower.

Palutena

  • Palutena can’t act as quickly after using her Dash Attack.
  • She can’t act as quickly after landing with her Forward Aerial.
  • Her Grab range has been decreased.

Diddy Kong

  • Diddy Kong now has to wait longer to pull out another banana peel after throwing one.

Joker

  • Joker can’t act as quickly after using his Side Special.
  • Joker has increased vulnerability if his Arsene counter isn’t triggered.

Min Min

  • The amount of time Min Min can charge her Side Smash Attacks has been decreased. This reduces their maximum power.
  • Reduced the launch distance of her laser attack when she has her Dragon ARM equipped.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 11.0.0 Update: Other Changes

Finally, Nintendo balanced the amount of stun 14 characters are put in when they’re knocked to the ground by an attack. Fighters are sent into tumble when they get hit by strong attacks, and if they don’t break their fall with their shield button (a technique that’s been dubbed “teching”), they will bounce on the ground, leaving them vulnerable to being hit again for a moment. Nintendo tweaked the vulnerability of the following characters to match that of the entire Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

  • Link
  • Jigglypuff
  • Zelda
  • R.O.B.
  • Villager
  • Mii Brawler
  • Mii Swordfighter
  • Mii Gunner
  • Shulk
  • Isabelle
  • Hero
  • Banjo & Kazooie
  • Byleth
  • Min Min

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate typically only receives balance updates after the release of a new character. That means this should the only update up until Nintendo releases the next Fighters Pass 2 DLC character, barring any patches required to fix issues with Pyra and Mythra.
