Most Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are content co-existing solely with their animal villager friends while soaking up the island life. Others, however, are still dreaming of what could be, and in this case, the result is mashing up Pokemon with Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons released in March to critical acclaim and was quickly propelled to becoming the fastest selling Switch game of all time. Gamers are particularly enjoying the digital rays while stuck cooped up in their homes due to the dangers of the coronavirus outbreak.

YouTuber The Pixel Kingdom has now created a visual representation of what it could be like if players could have Pokemon by their side throughout Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Rather than focusing on catching and battling Pokemon, as is the usual in mainline Pokemon games, players instead simply co-exist in a Pokemon/Animal Crossing world with the famous pocket monsters, plus the usual animal villagers.

From the get-go, players are invited to participate in the ‘Pokemon Inc. Deserted Island Package’ with the Nooks replaced by a pair of Chansey. It quickly becomes clear that Pokemon are inhabitants of the island, with groups of Krabby roaming the beaches, Butterfree appearing alongside the island’s standard catchable butterflies, and massive Pokemon like Wailmer appearing in the game’s museum. Driftloon takes over the job of carrying balloon presents. The creator even included a mock-up of Pokemon GO within the game.

Although, the video also makes clear that living alongside Pokemon could be problematic at times. The player falls into a Diglett hole while jumping across a river, gets squashed by Snorlax, and even fishes up a Magikarp, which one can imagine taking the place of New Horizon’s dreaded sea bass.

Pokemon have been cleverly incorporated into nearly all of Animal Crossing’s activities and locales in the imagined ‘Pokemon Crossing: Alola Horizons.’ While a game like this will likely never exist, chances are Pokemon and Animal Crossing players will be dreaming of what could be after seeing the video. At least the two series can still interact in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fights.

This isn’t the first time that Animal Crossing players have mixed in the Pokemon world. Players have recreated everything from starting area Pallet Town to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in New Horizons. Though the two franchises have rarely met, it seems many fans wouldn’t mind having Pokemon tie into the game in some shape or form.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
