Update: The Ravnica book has been confirmed, and Eberron has been confirmed as the returning D&D setting.
The current edition of Dungeons & Dragons includes rules for playing in several different settings, including Faerun (the world of the Forgotten Realms), Oerth (the world of Greyhawk), and Krynn (the world of Dragonlance).
It was only a month ago that Nathan Stewart (the Brand Director and Executive Producer of Dungeons & Dragons) promised that an old setting would be revived and receive a fifth edition update. This led many fans to speculate that the world of Athas from Dark Sun would return, or that the space sailing setting of Spelljammer would make its long-awaited return to the game.
We now know that the latest setting of Dungeons & Dragons belongs to a different game, thanks to an early listing by Amazon.com. The listing has revealed that the next Dungeons & Dragons setting is Ravnica, which is one of the planes of Magic: The Gathering.
Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica is an upcoming book that will detail the main world of Ravnica, which contains a city that is bigger than any other the players are likely to encounter in a regular Dungeons & Dragons game. This is a setting that is ruled by the ten Ravnican Guilds, who are all trying to steal power away from each other.
Magic: The Gathering was the game that turned Wizards of the Coast into a household name. It was due to the success of Magic that Wizards of the Coast were able to purchase the rights to Dungeons & Dragons when TSR went out of business. The people at Wizards of the Coast were responsible for releasing the third edition of Dungeons & Dragons, which helped the game to find a new audience.

There have been a few small crossovers between Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering over the years, with the most recent being a set of free online supplements that offer rules for using some of the established planes and worlds of Magic as a setting for a D&D campaign. Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica is the most prominent attempt to merge the two games and it may represent a further connection in the future.
There is a lot of Magic: The Gathering material that can be adapted for Dungeons & Dragons and the reverse may also be true. Will be possibly be seeing one of the prominent settings of Dungeons & Dragons being included in a future expansion for Magic: The Gathering? Are cards based on Drizzt and Elminister part of the future of the game?
