Amazon’s MMO New World had a beta back in July and it was a smash hit, garnering 200,000 players on Steam. With the release rearing its head, another is launching. The beta goes live at 3 pm BST / 7 am PT and will be running for the next three days until 8 am BST / 12 am PT.
Accessing it is fairly simple. All you have to do is head over to the Steam page and navigate to the purchase options where there is a prompt, “Join the New World Open Beta.” Simply click “Request Access” and voila. You should get an email that will allow you to download the game so you can get stuck in.
However, if you downloaded the old beta, that version will not work. You still have to request access and install the new build. Then, you’ll have to download it again if you decide to purchase it when the game launches on September 28. At any rate, this is the perfect time to try it out to see whether you like it. “The Open Beta test will utilize Steam’s new Playtest feature, which allows all interested players in our supported regions to request access to the test, for free,” the developer stated. “Servers will be available in North America, Europe, Australia, and South America.”
It’d be best to avoid getting too attached to any progress you make, though, as everything will be wiped before release. The intent of the beta isn’t to gear you up and give you a headstart, it’s to test server infrastructure as it will have a “higher server capacity than the Closed Beta.” Nonetheless, it still won’t be representative of the capacity at launch.
During the Open Beta, you can record or broadcast the game publicly without fear of breaching any NDAs or embargos, so if you want to stream it or share pics online, you’re free to do so.
