There are a lot of things players can do right now in Animal Crossing: New Horizons thanks to the summer update. Not only that, but new fish and bugs are available now that we’ve entered July. For those who might be new to the series, each month brings at the very least one new fish, sea creature, or bug to track down, and it is a great idea to find them at the beginning of each month so that you don’t need to worry once they’re gone.

Tracking down these creatures has several benefits. Not only can you add them to your museum to expand its collection, but they can also be sold.

July has many additions available, and the following are the newest fish that players can start catching:

  • Sweetfish – Available until September, 24 hours a day in the river
  • Napoelonfish – Available until August, 4 am to 9 pm in the sea
  • Puffer Fish – Available until September, 24 hours a day in the sea
  • Blue Marlin – Available until September, and again in November, 24 hours a day at the pier
  • Ocean Sunfish – Available until September, 4 am to 9 pm in the sea

Apart from fish, there are also three sea creatures:

This should give players plenty to do. Luckily, there are no new bugs in July to complicate matters. However, players should still note that the Honeybee, Tadpole, and Seaweed will be leaving at the end of July, so make sure to nab them before they disappear.

C.J.’s Fishing Tourney

C.J.’s Fishing Tourney will also be heading to the game soon. The event occurs several times in the year and C.J. the beaver will be hosting the event this month. It will only be available again in October, so now is a great time to get your favourite rod ready. The summer fishing tourney will take place July 11. Players will be rewarded with points that can be redeemed for furniture and fish trophies.

Its rules are simple. There will be a three minute time limit per attempt to catch as many fish as possible and players will receive bonus points if they catch three or more fish. Playing with friends also provides bonus points. The entry fee is waived for the first attempt, but it will cost 500 Bells for each subsequent attempt. However, this is easy to make up since C.J. pays out 1.5 times the normal selling price of fish.

With those points, players can purchase the following items for ten points a piece:

  • Fish-Print Tee
  • Fish Pochette
  • Tackle Bag
  • Fish Umbrella
  • Fish Rug
  • Marine Pop Wall
  • Fish Print
  • Fish Doorplate
  • Anchor Statue
  • Fish-Drying Rack
  • Fresh Cooler
  • Fishing-Rod Stand
  • Fish Wand

Unfortunately, each prize is awarded randomly and cannot be selected by a player, so it may take a while to complete an entire collection for those looking to get the whole set or a particular item. However, if you prefer trophies, the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Fish Trophy can be purchased for 100, 200, and 300 points respectively.

Summer Update

There is even more to do now that the summer update is live. Players can now dive into the ocean and explore its floor for even more collectibles. Along the way, Pascal the Sea Otter will offer trades for scallops, so everybody wins. Players can also finally build their own hedges and purchase bushes.

Now’s the time to go out and explore your island. Good luck!
