Ever since making her big-screen debut in The Princess Diaries back in 2001, Anne Hathaway has become one of the most popular actresses of her generation. Hathaway earned her first Oscar nomination following Jonathan Demme’s 2008 film Rachel Getting Married. Four years later, Hathway won her first Academy Award for her work in the musical adaptation of Les Miserables.

5 The Cat Returns (7.3/10)

In just the third feature film role of her career, Hathaway landed a coveted lead voice-over job for the one and only studio Ghibli!

Directed by Hiroyuki Morita, The Cat Returns focuses on a 17-year-old girl, who, after saving a street cat from harm, becomes unwittingly engaged to the feline Prince Lune (Andrew Bevis). The prince’s father, known as the Cat King (Tim Curry), tries to woo Haru (Hathaway) by gifting her with several items and favors. In the end, Haru must evade the Cat Kingdom and return home safely.

4 Les Miserables (7.6/10)

In just her second career nomination, Hathaway won an Oscar for Best Leading Actress for her turn in the 2012 musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Not so miserable after all, huh?

Directed by Tom Hooper, the classic Victor Hugo tale revolves around Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) and his honorable decision to care for the daughter of a female worker while on the run from relentless police inspector, Javert (Russell Crowe). For her part though, Hathaway lent a confident air of sexiness to Selina Kyle in a more playful way than previously seen. After, ahem, a bit of a cat-and-bat chase, Kyle eventually agrees to help the Caped Crusader bring down the treacherous Bane (Tom Hardy).
