The AOpen 32HC1QUR 32-Inch monitor offers super sharp colors with a WQHD 1800R curved display, AMD Radeon FreeSync, 144Hz refresh rate, and a 4ms response time. Although there are some minor considerations to be had with the design of the base, this monitor was by far the best surprise of 2020 so far.

Alright, so the bar is pretty low on that one. Still, using this high-end monitor for gaming has been an outstanding experience, as well as for the immense amount of non-gaming work I put it through. To begin, check out the unboxing video below for the AOpen 32HC1QUR.

A Simple, Classic Design

Compared to other gaming monitors that often contain loud, aggressive LED lights and gaming design symbols, AOpen 32HC1QUR is well behaved and not looking to stand out through obnoxious, juvenile design. In place of flashiness, users can expect a great looking black finish, contoured edges , and a smooth, curved back where the controls can be found for the settings.

As a result, what stands out most about the look of AOpen 32HC1QUR right out of the box is how unassuming it is. As it turns out, this is great and there is no need for over the top flashiness, because once in use the screen speaks for itself.

A Curved Screen To Reduce Eye-Strain

Curved monitors are relatively new technology in the consumer market. Or perhaps its better to say that the technology is far more affordable than it was a few years ago. Curved monitors work to reduce eye strain by drawing the eyes towards the natural flow of the screen, allowing for a more immersive experience by allowing for a natural and optimized field of view experience.

All of that might not mean anything to someone who has never used a curved monitor, so consider this instead. Prior to this review, I have always used a 29-inch Dell monitor. It cost a pretty penny when I first picked it up, and it has been great for everything from online research, to writing and playing the most graphically demanding games.

However, after a long day of work and play, I have noticed that my eyes would tend to feel sore, and I would know that it was time to turn in despite wanting to continue working or keep playing another round of Dead by Daylight. When AOpen sent their monitor for this review, I was curious about the curve but not overly optimistic about what kind of a difference lay in ahead.

Using the AOpen 32HC1QUR was like night and day. Without exaggeration, the slightly larger screen than what I am used to looks fantastic, and as I sit and write this review in the late hours of the night, I can say that my eyes feel fine. The difference in comfort is undeniable, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the moment I go back to my flatscreen, my eyes will again feel the strain and I’ll have to order my own AOpen 32HC1QUR. If they sent everyone a monitor to review, they too would likely be sucked into the superiority its curved screen. That’s a million-dollar idea right there.

One Step Before Ultrawide

The AOpen 32HC1QUR offers support for a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels and a standard 16:9 ratio. With a viewing angle of 178°(H) and 178°(V). At first, I was worried that the AMD specification would leave something to be desired on my Nvidia GeForce 1660 Ti, but luckily this was not the case and drivers are available to take advantage of the FreeSync displays.

The Base Leaves Something To Be Desired

Assembling the monitor to its stand is a simple process that takes only a minute or so, however, it cannot be adjusted in height. This is a frustrating complaint to have to make, because while the monitor itself shines for work and gameplay, not being able to adjust its height means having to adjust something else, be it a desk, or playing something beneath the stand.

Neither of these are ideal solutions, but it must be said that all things considered, it is great to be able to say that the lack of height adjustment is the worst thing about the AOpen 32HC1QUR. Still, the ability to move the monitor about two inches would be ideal.

The Bottom Line – This Monitor Is A Great Buy For Everyone

At first this review was planned to be heavily geared towards gaming. However, after days of usage for only office work, writing all day, countless Zoom meetings, creating Power Points and more, it became clear that AOpen 32HC1QUR is the perfect everyday monitor as well.

Days went by without playing any games at all to see how the monitor felt after non-stop work. Honestly, I was trying to see at what point my eyes might start to feel tired again after a full day of writing and reading. It’s been about three weeks now, and I have yet to encounter such a feeling.

Whether you are someone who heavily games or mixes it up with a lot of personal or home office use, AOpen 32HC1QUR is the ideal solution at a reasonable price point, though it’s important to shop around, because the range in price from seller to seller seems quite large, and it can be picked up for as little as about $299 and upwards of $499. Be sure to check this one out, for it has single-handedly provided the best change to my daily routine without even knowing it would be something I’d grow to need.
