Respawn launched its official trailer for Season 5 of Apex Legends, entitled “Fortune’s Favor.” Hundreds of thousands of fans tuned into the YouTube premiere, adding even more hype around the upcoming event. Loba was heavily featured throughout the short animated trailer – and her actions raised some interesting questions.

The opening moments of the video are pretty normal, with Mirage gaining the upper hand against Pathfinder in Skull Town of Kings Canyon. Before he can finish the job, however, Gibraltar throws his dome shield over his robotic alley and vanquishes Mirage (or his clone) with a mortar strike. This is where things get really interesting.

The camera pans downward below Skull Town to reveal an underground laboratory/factory – strongly implied to be owned by Hammond Robotics. Our new legend of Season 5, Loba, is then seen breaching the premises via her teleportation disk. She strikes a flair and gets to exploring.

Immediately, she stumbles upon a robotic frame resembling the assassin Revenant, her parents’ murderer. After a brief flashback, she ventures deeper and attempts to annihilate the operation at the underground facility. Unfortunately, she’s thwarted by a triggered security system which sends robots after her. One impressive battle sequence later, she’s destroyed the hostiles and has teleported out intact – surrounded by the other legends.

Throughout the trailer, fans are given plenty of hints regarding what is to come in Season 5. First of all, more on Revenant’s relationship with Hammond Robotics is featured. His robotic assassin form looks to be far from original; in fact, an army of identical robotic frames lies dormant in the underground lab. Likely, Revenant was the first successful robotic-human hybrid created by Hammond and they are looking to produce even more. It would be unsurprising to see more of Hammond’s presence featured in the new season.

Lastly, we see Loba’s abilities showcased – and dear me do they look fun. Early leaks appear to be accurate, as Loba is seen teleporting around by way of a throwable disk. Undoubtedly, she’ll be a legend built around mobility. It will be interesting to see how versatile her teleportation is, such as whether or not she can zip through walls and closed doors. She also seems capable of yanking loot from large distances, snagging an R-301 from a faraway weapon rack in the video. Oh, and her heirloom better dang-well be that amazing cane she used to beat down those robots.

Upon finally confronting Revenant at the end of the trailer, Loba demonstrates maturity and patience, undeterred by his taunts. She replies that she’ll kill him “someday,” and considering Forge’s mortality, Loba just might be successful. Season 5 will go live on May 12 and its gameplay trailer should be releasing anytime before then.
