Apple has added a new feature to its Fitness+ service for Apple Watch users called Time To Walk. It is aimed at encouraging users to walk more and mixes podcast-like audio episodes with music and pictures. Each episode features a celebrated guest offering words of inspiration and entertainment.

Apple Fitness+ was launched in December 2020 as a subscription service aimed at offering users personalized workouts without the need for a gym. It requires an Apple Watch and an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV and uses the technology of the Watch — such as heart rate and blood oxygen level monitoring — to track the performance of users and provide feedback. Subscriptions cost $9.99 per month, $79.99 when paid annually, or are included as part of a $29.95 per month Apple One Premier plan that can be shared between up to six family members.

Time To Walk episodes are intended to be listened to while users are out walking. Apple says they feature “influential and interesting people” discussing “life-shaping moments and include lessons learned, meaningful memories, thoughts on purpose and gratitude, moments of levity, and other thought-provoking topics.” The episodes themselves are recorded while the guests are out walking and feature images that are shown on the listener’s Apple Watch at key points. Guests also introduce playlists of songs that they have found motivating or inspiring.

How To Find Time To Walk & Who Is Featured

Apple says new Time To Walk episodes will appear in the Workout app on Apple Watch every Monday until the end of April and that users will be able to browse and listen to them at their leisure. Ranging in duration from 25 to 40 minutes, they are downloaded directly to the app and can be accessed without the need for an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. When an episode is started, so too is a Walk workout so that users can track their performance. For wheelchair users, episodes automatically begin an Outdoor Wheelchair Walk Pace workout.

The first four episodes of Time To Walk are now available and feature country music star Dolly Parton, NBA player Draymond Green, Musician Shawn Mendes, and Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba. Parton discusses her career, family, and time growing up in Tennessee, Green “reflects on the virtues of failure and tuning out criticism,” Mendes talks about the benefits of maintaining a slow pace in life, and Aduba discusses “talks about lifelong relationships and keeping the faith.”
