Even though the alien invasion story is one of the most common within science fiction, the Apple TV+ series Invasion manages to add new layers of complexity and sophistication to this narrative. In particular, it allows the viewer to see how this sort of apocalyptic event radically reshapes the lives of several main characters scattered across the various parts of the globe.

All of these people come to show just what they’re made of, and viewing them through the lens provided by the zodiac allows for a more nuanced appreciation of their characters.

Aries – Trevante Ward

As a fire sign, the Aries is often known for its leadership skills and its stubbornness, both of which Trevante has in abundance. He clearly takes his position seriously as the leader of soldiers in a combat zone, and he does everything he can to try to help them after the invasion. At the same time, he has a stubborn streak that helps him to survive and endure when many others would probably give up, and he is always willing to defend those weaker than he is. In the end, he becomes like a hero from a great war movie.

Taurus – Ikuro Murai

Like the Aries, Taurus can be a bit of a stubborn sign, and they can be somewhat resistant to change. Ikuro Murai, the father of one of the astronauts that disappears in space, is criticized by his daughter for being old-fashioned and for holding to the old ways. At the same time, he also exhibits the loyalty to loved ones that is also a key part of the Taurus and, as he tells Mitsuki, he supported his daughter’s attraction to women even when she herself seemed to struggle with it.

Gemini – Ahmed Malik

The most unfortunate thing about Geminis is that they tend to be unstable, and they show two different sides of themselves to the world, often depending on what is personally convenient for them. This is exactly what happens with the character of Ahmed Malik, who begins his time in the series by revealing that he’s been having an affair with another woman.

He continues to show two slides of his personality, often being both brave and cowardly, sometimes in immediate succession.

Cancer – Kaito Kawaguchi

Though Cancer can be a very affectionate and supportive sign, they can also at times be self-indulgent, always looking out for what is convenient or best for them. Kaito, one of Mitsuki’s colleagues and a friend, clearly has a lot of affection for her, but he can’t seem to see past his own personal interests, and for that reason, he puts up quite a lot of fight when she decides that she wants to try to establish contact with her lover, Hinata. He tends to look after his own needs first and those of others afterward.

Leo – Hinata

Even though the series doesn’t give viewers a great deal of information about Hinata, what it does show reveals that she was a very charismatic and powerful personality, the kind of person who could cast a spell over whoever they came into contact with, whether that was her father or Mitsuki. As a result, she falls very much into the category of the Leo which is, most would agree, the most magnetic and charismatic of the signs in the zodiac.

Virgo – Mitsuki

As one of the best female heroines in science fiction, Mitsuki is also one of this series’ best characters. She is dogged and stubborn, and she has a powerful loyalty to Hinata that leads her to continue to try to establish contact with her even though she knows that the other woman probably didn’t survive the alien attack. In doing so, she exhibits many of the traits of the Virgo, a sign known for its very methodical approach to problems and to its stubborn insistence on its own rightness.

Libra – Caspar Morrow

Of all of the signs in the zodiac, the Libra is the one that is the most committed to fairness and justice, and those born under this sign are also often very compassionate. Those are all traits that the character Caspar has in abundance. Even though he is quite young, he repeatedly shows that he wants to do what is best for those that surround him, particularly once he gets stranded with a group of other schoolchildren.

And, in true Libra fashion, he’s even willing to sacrifice himself to protect others from the aliens.

Scorpio – Montgomery “Monty” Cuttermill

If Caspar emblematizes the justice-minded Libra, his fellow student Monty is in the mold of a true Scorpio. Given his own traumatic past, it’s not terribly surprising that he likes to inflict pain on others, and he takes an especial delight in tormenting Caspar. Like a Scorpio (and like many other creepy children in movies and TV), he doesn’t seem to mind making enemies, so long as he gets to feel that he is in the right and so long as he gets to exercise power over someone else.

Sagittarius – Aneesha Malik

Aneesha is one of this series most compelling characters, and she’s one who endures a great deal, first when her husband is revealed to have been cheating on her and then when the invasion upends all of their lives. As a Sagittarius, she has a keen emotional awareness of others, which goes a long way toward explaining why she remains so close to her children and why she also continues to be loyal to her husband, even after all that he has done to her and their life together.

Capricorn – Sheriff John Bell Tyson

Sam Neill has been in many great movies in his career, and he brings his considerable star power to the role of Sheriff John Bell Tyson. Even though he is only in the first episode, the viewer still learns a great deal about this man, and it’s clear that he is very much a Capricorn. He’s the stubborn type of old-fashioned law-man that will not stop until he has uncovered the mystery behind the disappearances in his small town.

Aquarius – Luke Malik

The Aquarius is noted for being one of the most enigmatic and mysterious signs in the zodiac, and there always seems to be a part of themselves that they’re hiding from others. Luke Malik, the son of Aneesha and Ahmed, is very much someone who acts like an Aquarius, for while he clearly has some sort of connection to the aliens and their methods of communicating, he keeps a part of himself hidden, even from his parents.

Pisces – Jamila Huston

The Pisces is the sign in the zodiac most noted for its compassion and for its willingness to reach out to others that need them, even at their own expense. Jamila Huston is the series’ resident Pisces, because she shows time and again that she is very compassionate, and she is willing to stick up for Caspar against their fellow students, even before the invasion puts them in harm’s way. She also stays loyal to him right up until the end.
