Ash Has Finally Caught A Farfetchd In The Pokémon Anime

Ash Ketchum has added a new member to his team in the Pokémon anime, as he has caught a Galarian Farfetch’d in the latest episode of the show.

Farfetch’d was considered one of the weakest Pokémon in the Kanto region for a long time, especially compared to other standout Flying/Normal-type Pokémon in Pokémon Red & Blue. The line received a major boost in Pokémon Sword & Shield, when a Galarian form of Farfetch’d was introduced. Galarian Farfetch’d is a Fighting-type Pokémon that evolves into the mighty Sirfetch’d, which quickly became popular with the fanbase.

Ash has finally caught a Farfetch’d in the latest episode of the Pokémon anime. According to Bulbapedia, Goh attempted to catch a Galarian Farfetch’d but failed to defeat it in battle. Ash proved to be worthy of the challenge and took it down. The Farfetch’d later found him and asked to join his team. This is the first time that Ash has caught a regional variant of an existing Pokémon.

This marks one of the longest gaps in Ash encountering a Pokémon for the first time and actually catching one. Ash first encountered a Farfetch’d in “So Near, Yet So Farfetch’d”, which was first broadcast in 1998 (’99 in the USA). Farfetch’d have had minor roles throughout the series, but this marks the first time that one will become a major character.

The addition of a Galarian Farfetch’d to his team is an interesting one. Ash is currently assembling a dream team of powerful Pokémon as part of the World Coronation Series, which currently includes Dragonite, Genger, Riolu, and his Pikachu, which has access to its Gigantamax form. Most fans assume that Riolu will evolve into Lucario and that it will be a potent member of Ash’s team, but if Ash is using Galarian Farfetch’d (which will presumably evolve into Sirfetch’d), then he will have two pure Fighting-type Pokémon on his team. Does this mean Ash will have a rotating team of Pokémon? Will he trade Riolu or Farfetch’d in the future? Will Ash just use two Fighting-type Pokémon on his team for the foreseeable future? No one knows for sure, but we can’t wait to see what happens next.
