Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

The Pokémon franchise remains one of the most successful properties of all time. Pokémon has been able to branch out into various different streams of media and the Pokémon anime series has gained a level of fandom that’s just as intense as the love the fandom has for the video games.

The anime series has a lot of fun with how it contextualizes the events of the games and the many contrasting Pokémon, but Ash Ketchum is also an anchor throughout the hundreds of episodes. Ash has acquired some impressive Pokémon throughout the course of the series, some of which have plateaued at a certain level when it comes to evolutions.

10 Dragonite

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Dragonite is an elusive Dragon-Type Pokémon that Ash has admired since the early episodes of the Pokémon anime. Dragonite makes for the first Pokémon that Ash catches in the latest Pokémon Journeys: The Series anime, but Ash first encounters the Pokémon when it’s still a Dragonair.

The Dragonair helps fight Team Rocket and evolves in the process and it’s at that point that Ash finally gets a Dragonite. It’s become a valuable member of Ash’s party, but it’s another Pokémon that Ash acquires when it can’t evolve any further.

9 Dracovish

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Dracovish is one of Ash’s most recent Pokémon acquisitions and the Water-Type Pokémon joins his party during Ash and Goh’s adventures in the Galar region in Pokémon Journeys: The Series. Ash and Goh both receive Pokémon fossils, Ash’s turns into Dracovish and Goh gains Arctozolt.

It’s an exciting new Pokémon for Ash and it’s a welcome change of pace for him to work with a strong and rare Pokémon from a fossil. However, Dracovish is also a Pokémon that’s limited to its current form and doesn’t evolve any further.

8 Melmetal

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Melmetal is a rather special and unusual Pokémon since it’s a Steel-Type Legendary Pokémon that’s actually the evolved form of Meltan. Legendary Pokémon don’t typically evolve, but Meltan and Melmetal are an example of how some of these customs are changing.

Melmetal finishes off Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon with Ash before he leaves it with Professor Kukui to proceed into Pokémon Journeys: The Series. Like any Legendary, Melmetal is very strong, but its limited evolutionary nature is perhaps a reason that Ash deposited of it.

7 Snorlax

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Ash has encountered Snorlaxes since the beginning of his tenure as a Pokémon trainer, but he doesn’t actually catch one until he’s gained some experience under his belt and progressed onto the Orange Islands. Ash gets great use out of Snorlax through several of the anime series and he pushes the Pokémon to its limit and highlights just how efficient the behemoth of a Pokémon can be.

Snorlax doesn’t evolve any further, but that doesn’t slow it or Ash down from claiming many victories and standing out from the rest of Ash’s Pokémon team.

6 Hawlucha

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Hawlucha is the rare combination of a Flying- and Fighting-Type Pokémon and it doesn’t just do well in battle, but it thrives in the combative environment. Hawlucha is already an honorable Pokémon protector before Ash catches it in Kalos region, but it helps make the two of them become an even stronger team.

Hawlucha wins many fights for Ash up until when he deposits him once he departs for the Alola region. Hawlucha doesn’t evolve, but it’s another situation where it doesn’t make a difference.

5 Gengar

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

The ghost-type Pokémon are some of the most fascinating creatures in the series and while Ash’s has plenty of encounters with these types of Pokémon, it’s not until Pokémon Journeys: The Series when he finally catches one, and it’s a Gengar no less.

Gengar is highly mischievous and Ash gets to know the Pokémon for a while before it’s officially a part of his team. Gengar is a wild card that still does great work for Ash in battle and despite how Gastly and Haunter evolve into Gengar, Ash gains the Ghost Pokémon once it’s already fully formed.

4 Heracross

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Bug-Type Pokémon are sometimes easily dismissed, but creatures like Heracross are a testament to how strong and useful certain Bug-Type Pokémon can be. Heracross becomes one of Ash’s more prized Pokémon due to how it’s his first catch in the Johto region, which causes them to bond quite a bit.

Heracross has an entertaining and quirky personality and its Fighting-Type side allows it to be a real powerhouse in battle. However, it’s also a rare occasion of a Bug-Type Pokémon that’s on its own in the evolutionary line.

3 Torkoal

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Ash has let all sorts of different Pokémon into his party through the course of the different series, but Torkoal represents one of his more fragile Pokémon that requires a lot of attention and reassurance. It’s difficult for Torkoal to bond with Ash’s other Pokémon and it takes time for it to gain confidence, but it eventually does.

Torkoal is a Fire-Type from the Hoenn region that seems like it’d be one form in a larger evolutionary chain, but it’s actually isolated on its own.

2 Lycanroc

Ashs 10 Strongest Pokémon (That Cant Evolve)

Ash’s Lycanroc is a Pokémon that he acquires in the Alola region courtesy of Proffer Kukui. Ash’s relationship with Lycanroc begins with the Pokémon as a Rockruff, but it’s only in that form for a brief period briefly it evolves into the Dusk Form Lycanroc. Lycanroc has extreme personalities, but its ire turns out to be greatly helpful in battle against other trainers.

The way in which Lycanroc evolves is one of the more unusual means to prompt change, but the Pokémon doesn’t evolve any further even though Ash helps it grow a lot.

1 Charizard

Admittedly, Ash’s Charizard is a Pokémon of his that begins as a Charmander and then a Charmeleon, but his first Fire-Type Pokémon ultimately ends up spending the most time as a Charizard. Charizard can’t evolve any further, which only hammers in the lesson that Ash didn’t take his time with this Pokémon and pushed it ahead too quickly, much to both of their detriments.

Charizard is uncooperative with Ash for a long time, but they do eventually foster a healthy relationship and become an incredible duo.
