Assassin’s Creed Vallhala could have a larger map than the previous installment in the series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft has continued expanding throughout their series and this could be a step forward in terms of map size.

According to Ubisoft producer, Julien Laferrière, during an interview with Julien Chièze (translated via Reddit), Laferrière said fans can expect Assassin’s Creed Vallhala to boast a larger world than that of its predecessor. With Assassin’s Creed Odyssey showing off the largest map in the series to date, the upcoming game may only be slightly larger but will definitely have a lot to offer.

“In terms of range [Vallhala] is probably a bit larger than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” Laferrière said. “We have not only created the whole country, which is in this case England, but also to a good part of Norway too.”

Players will be able to explore the four kingdoms in England which include Northumbria, East Anglia, Mercia, and Wessex and travel to big cities within them such as London and Winchester. Norway will also take up a good portion of the map and give players many different areas to see.

Laferrière said the game will also feature secret locations throughout its runtime. While this was not elaborated on, it’s never been unusual for Assassin’s Creed to send players back in time to complete story based missions so a return of that in Vallhala could definitely be a possibility.

“It’s not a small game,” Laferrière said. “It is a game which is clearly ambitious, which will offer many many hours of gameplay for the players.”

After Valhalla’s reveal, Ubisoft said it was taking the criticism of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s massive size to heart and revealed that Valhalla would not be the biggest or longest in the series. With this recent information, this news seems to contradict itself. While a larger map could mean a larger story, that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. A bigger map could mean more side quests and a heightened focus on exploration. So while the story may not be as big, it may just take a while to travel from point to point.

With Ubisoft’s summer event, Ubisoft Forward, coming up in July, more information is likely to be revealed about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s map size, gameplay, and story.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is expected to release this holiday season for next-generation consoles and for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
