The 30 men vying for The Bachelorette Michelle Young’s heart this season used their imaginations to come up with the perfect entrance to catch her attention on premiere night, but Michelle revealed Rick Leach’s serving platter costume as her favorite. The guys tried all sorts of ideas to impress Michelle, from Rodney Mathews’ apple costume to Peter Izzo’s pizza-making to pantless LT Murray’s underwear tuxedo. In Michelle’s opinion, however, Rick served up the best moment of that first night.
Michelle was certainly surprised by Rick’s costume. He hid under a table set with candles, bowls of food, and a cloche that Michelle lifted to reveal his head on a silver platter. When she opened the lid, Rick shouted, “Michelle!,” scaring her and making her laugh. He then described himself as the special of the night, using the menu theme to reveal details about himself. Rick was stuck in the costume for most of the night, only emerging during his one-on-one time with Michelle. She was very impressed with him, saying she felt chemistry and calling him charming and charismatic.
On the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast with Becca Kufrin and Tayshia Adams, Michelle explained why Rick’s entrance was her favorite “hands down.” She said the costume, with his head on a bed of lettuce, had her genuinely laughing and scared, which “got the adrenaline going again.” She said the idea was “so unique,” and admitted, “I don’t think I would put myself in a table for however long, let alone first time meeting somebody.” Rick sacrificed his own comfort to make Michelle laugh and help her to relax on a long, nerve-racking night.
Michelle said Rick’s costume showed “dedication and commitment.” He was stuck inside the table for hours as he waited for his time with Michelle. She said she was unsure how long he was actually in the table, but it must have been hours because he was still in it by the time she gave her toast and then later talked to him. Becca marveled about Rick’s commitment to the costume, and Tayshia joked he probably needed a chiropractor. They all hoped he was able to drink something and use the restroom if he needed to. Michelle was clearly enamored by the lengths to which Rick would go to impress her. The women agreed that they are all “Rick fans.”
Although fans of the Bachelorette do not yet know if Rick won Michelle’s heart, they definitely saw how some creativity and dedication went a long way on that first night. For Michelle to name him her favorite out of all of the interesting entrances, says a lot about their connection. Hopefully, he will continue to dish out many more memorable moments. Perhaps, Michelle will present Rick with her final rose on a silver platter.
