A funny and surprising new video shows a Back 4 Blood player getting annihilated by a group of coordinated Ridden enemies. The footage comes directly from one of the game’s co-op missions, which can currently be enjoyed for free by members of Xbox Game Pass.

Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to the cult classic Left 4 Dead series, which featured intense multiplayer gameplay where players faced off against hordes of zombie enemies. By many accounts, Back 4 Blood remains faithful to its predecessor, offering up some of the same classic co-op fun and over-the-top action. Players can take on these monsters solo or with up to three teammates, making the game an exercise in communication and tight shooter mechanics. Taking a strategic approach to matches is encouraged by the diverse roster of enemies, with each type having its own unique skills.

The multitude of enemy types and the concentration of enemies appear to have worked against Redditor xodallas, as evidenced by a recent clip. As though the Back 4 Blood campaign wasn’t difficult enough, xodallas had to be subject to a brutal beatdown by a handful of monsters who were seemingly working in unison to deal out the most punishment possible. In the video, a Tallboy and a Breaker both grab xodallas and toss them from their safe house into a sea of Ridden. A Hocker then grapples xodallas with a special ability, which gives a pair of Reekers the opportunity to spew toxic waste on the player, resulting in an incredible amount of overall damage done to xodallas.

The jaw-dropping video will likely be rather shocking for Back 4 Blood players to watch, as it demonstrates just how challenging these enemies can be. It is also a good showcase of the advanced AI scripting of these menacing enemies, which millions of players got a taste of in the wildly successful Back 4 Blood beta flight. This sentiment may not be shared by xodallas though, as they were essentially bullied by this group of intelligent zombies.

This can tie into a broader conversation regarding game balance and difficulty; many gamers would agree that a challenging campaign or multiplayer match is better than one that’s too easy, but a line still needs to be drawn. If a player doesn’t stand a chance against the enemy AI, a game can quickly become frustrating. Still, it seems like xodallas and other Back 4 Blood players are enjoying the title, even if they have to put up with crazy zombie combos from time to time.
