In a recent blog post, Balan Wonderworld producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto promised the development team is working on a day one patch to address many of the issues relayed in player feedback from the demo. Publisher Square Enix deployed a demo for the eagerly-anticipated platformer earlier this year; while there were players who found plenty to love about Balan Wonderworld, others felt skeptical about the quality due to a variety of problems that plagued the experience.

Balan Wonderworld comes from director Yuji Naka and art director Naoto Ohshima, both of whom played pivotal roles in the creation of the original Sonic the Hedgehog series. A wondrous 3D action platformer, the themes in this Square Enix-published adventure revolve around the fictional Balan Theatre. Emma and Leo serve as the stars of the show, who follow the theatre’s enigmatic maestro Balan. While navigating their way through the titular Wonderworld, the two characters will employ several special skills and abilities, each courtesy of the more than 80 colorful costumes for Emma and Leo to try out.

Though a charming and enticing adventure, many concerns were raised following the release of Balan Wonderworld’s demo earlier in the year. Some players thought the game boasted a promising visual flair with a shallow underbelly. Others perceived the gameplay as stiff and in need of polish. While not every problem can reasonably receive a resolution before launch, producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto wrote in a blog post on Square Enix’s website that a day one patch will offer players “a more balanced gameplay experience.” According to Fujimoto, the patch will specifically rebalance difficulty, as well adjust movement controls and camera movement.

Because Balan Wonderworld is slated to release in a little over a week, it makes sense that the development crew isn’t able to tackle every bit of player feedback from the demo. And since the wildly impressive visuals are the least of Balan Wonderworld’s concerns, the focus on optimizing gameplay and controls seems the best course of action for a day one patch.

How else the teams at Balan Company and Arzest plan to improve the experience after the day one update is currently anyone’s guess. Additional changes are bound to take post-launch feedback into consideration, though. Fortunately, the wait for the platformer’s release is nearly at an end.
