Ice cream company Baskin-Robbins has partnered with Pokémon to release Pokémon-themed ice cream cakes and an ice cream flavor in Japan.
The collaboration features a variety of different Pokémon treats which fans can purchase at Japanese Baskin-Robbins locations, known as “31” in the country. Fans can choose between a cake that features the face of Pikachu or Eevee, a Pikachu-themed sorbet flavor served in Pokémon-decorated cups, and a variety pack that comes in a Pokémon box. Baskin-Robbins will serve the ice cream with plastic Pikachu spoons.
According to Sora News 24, the 6-inch Pikachu cake features a coating of yellow whipped-cream decorated with edible eyes, ears, and cheeks. The inside of the cake will combine two ice cream flavors. The first is plain strawberry, but the second is the Japan-exclusive Baskin-Robbins flavor Popping Shower, which contains Pop-Rock candy that will emulate Pikachu’s electric powers.
The Eevee cake is same size and shape as the Pikachu cake, but features brown whipped cream on top and Eevee’s eyes and ears. On the inside, they replaced the strawberry and Pop-Rocks with a more Eevee appropriate milk chocolate ice cream with caramel ribbons. Both cakes feature a decorative whipped cream piping around the edges.
Each cake sits atop a serving platter with Pikachu and Eevee graphics and a Pokéball in the center. Perhaps kids can enjoy the cakes alongside their new life-sized Mareep plushies.
Moving on from cakes, Baskin-Robbins also created a Pikachu sorbet called “Pikachu Thunderbolt Fruit Mix” and loaded it with every yellow and yellowish fruit flavor imaginable. The sorbet combines pineapple, yellow peach, banana, apple, and orange; and on top of that, features more of those Pop-Rock candies plus some little candies shaped like Pikachu’s head.
If that doesn’t already have fans on Pikachu overload, Baskin-Robbins serves the ice cream in Pokémon scoop cups that feature Pikachu, Mew, and Mewtwo. They even include one of three bright yellow spoons with Pikachu’s likeness on the end. With all of these options, one might wonder what Pikachu has to be so sad about.
The final piece of the promotion is a Pokémon-decorated box for 12-scoop variety packs that costumers can take to-go. All of these sweet Pokémon treats are available now at 31 stores in Japan. The Pikachu sorbet will only be available for a limited amount of time, but fans can enjoy the cakes for the foreseeable future as they will become additions to the year-round menu.
