Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may have divided fans and critics, but when the film releases on home video later this month it’s coming with a new cut that may or may not improve the overall experience. One of the changes that has been confirmed is the re-addition of Jena Malone to the film. Malone’s role was kept under wraps, so the wild speculation commenced. Initially, she was rumored to be Carrie Kelly, the iteration of Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. Later, it seemed almost certain she would be playing Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl. Now we may have a better idea of her character’s name and role in the film.

Recently, a copy of the Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut leaked online providing plenty of spoilers of how these additional scenes affected the final film. Among these revelations came word that Malone was neither Carrie Kelly nor Barbara Gordon, but “a S.T.A.R. Labs forensic scientist named Jenet Klyburn who helps Lois Lane figure out the mysteries behind that bullet she recovered from the desert.” Now there’s another lead to indicate that this anticlimactic end to the rumor cycle was spot on.

Comicbook.com is reporting that a video posted to Reddit from YouTube titled “Batman V Superman – Ultimate Edition – End Credits” credited Malone as Jenet Klyburn. The video has since been removed, but it lends credence to the previous reports as to the identity of Malone’s character.

Unless there have been some incredible cover ups and false leads from the WB, it sounds like Malone’s cut role is, unfortunately, quite mundane. It also makes far more sense that her scene would be excised from the film. Considering every member of the Justice League got a cameo, it would be out of character for the film to exclude a member of the Bat-family if she had been filmed.

The good news is that the description of Malone’s scene seems to indicate it fleshes out a mighty large plot hole from the theatrical cut of the film, namely why Lex Luthor’s bullets have anything to do with anything. The film’s disjointed sub-plots were a huge sticking point for critics. If the Ultimate Cut goes further to flesh out these subplots, it could go a long way towards winning back the film’s detractors.

But, the identity of Malone’s character, and how the ultimate edition is received by fans and critics alike, remains to be seen when Batman V Superman is released later this month.
