Those perceptions turned out to be overly optimistic, however, as the final release ended up being significantly worse. While some maps – like Breakaway – performed decently, the rest remained rough. The number of players and war vehicles on a map caused a host of performance issues, while bad connections and other assorted glitches certainly didn’t improve the situation. Players couldn’t enjoy the all-out war concept that 2042 was trying to build because the planned chaos was peppered with far too much additional chaos that wasn’t intentional.

Despite the issues that have plagued BF 2042, the game still has hope because EA has recently announced crucial changes that could send the project in a positive direction. DICE has a lot of foundation to build on, and that’s something hopeful for the future. Loyal fans want to see 2042 do well because it’s been a while since the franchise made a significant impact. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 are a testament to that, and with a company as big as EA, DICE is likely to bring about positive change after the new Universe gets implemented. With 2042’s impressive foundation, gamers could finally experience the All-Out Warfare modes the way they were supposed to be played: with few enough bugs that their high points can be appreciated.
