EA released a new gameplay trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 during its press conference this morning. In it, we see fan favorites face off, such as Yoda and Darth Maul, as well as a series of maps, including the Assault on Theed, a snowy planet that may be Starkiller Base, and Kashyyk. We also see glimpses of Rey, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, not to mention the Empire-loyal heroine from the single player campaign, Iden Versio. The game is published by EA Dice and co-developed alongside Motive and Criterion.

The game engine is visually stunning, filled with lush detail and gives the player the feeling that they are actually reliving the highlights from the films, making memories as they go. It is by far the most realistic game depiction of the Star Wars universe seen thus far, thanks to EA’s considerable budget and the impressive Frostbite engine it runs on.

We move from battlefield to battlefield, fully immersed in the worlds, and we even get a chance to see what the space combat will look like via a squad of Resistance era X-Wing’s accompanying the Millenium Falcon through an asteroid belt. Furthermore, the final scene in the trailer is a nail biter as Iden Versio is apparently sucked out into space from a Star Destroyer. The visuals, sound design, and feel of the trailer are nothing if not impressive.

Unlike its predecessor, Battlefront 2 will feature a multiplayer mode that goes across all three trilogies – prequel, original, and new, leading to all sorts of mayhem. This was shown today when EA and Dice showcased the Assault on Theed map in a 20 v 20 multiplayer game. In it, Separatist forces fought in the street against Clone Troopers. Most importantly, however, Rey and Darth Maul got to face off, prompting a number of surprised fans to say “I didn’t know they could cross timelines.”

This news came to us via a 12 minute Youtube leak from one of the 20 v 20 players in the game, at 8am this morning, and featured 3 main characters interacting and fighting in the Assault on Theed map. The game is going to be playable for the public at EA Play that will begin after the conclusion of the E3 conference.

The game will be released on November 17th, 2017 on Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

E3 officially kicks off on June 13th, but press conferences have already started and will carry on through the weekend.
