Kate Chastain is letting fans know how she feels about the new Below Deck chief stew Heather Chase, two seasons after leaving the show. Joining the show as a replacement herself, fans first met Kate when she began appearing on season 2 of the show, when original chief stew Adrienne Gang chose not to return. Fans instantly fell in love with Kate and her no nonsense attitude and quick wit. She cemented her icon status when she arranged a charter guest’s towel to look like a questionable object, and claiming it was a rocket ship when confronted about it. It was then where she proved she wasn’t going to be a pushover, not to her staff, and not to the charter guests either.

Kate’s last season on the show was full of many ups and downs which tested her patience, and even led to Kate walking off the boat. Fans were upset to see Kate leave after season 7, but were even more upset with the behavior of the men on board. The men were accused of forming a boys club which would gang up against the women to gaslight and antagonize them. Many attribute this to Kate’s decision to formally retire from yachting. Although Kate quit Below Deck, she continues to appear on different Bravo shows. Up until recently she was one of the hosts on Bravo’s Chat Room, where she would discuss different Bravo shows, and can still be scene on Below Deck Galley Talk.

Kate is now giving fans some insight into how she feels about her newest replacement after Francesca Ruby decided not to return this season. During a recent appearance on the Watch What Happens Live After Show Kate gave Heather her seal of approval. When asked by a fan if she has any insight on the new seasons of the show, Kate shared she has actually met the new chief stew Heather and thinks she is awesome. Fans got to see the night the two of them met on Captain Lee Rosbach’s Instagram back in August. Captain Lee called that night his “version of Friday Night Lights” mixing his past and his present, while hoping for a positive future. Heather posted the same picture on her Instagram, calling everyone in it her favorite people, so it’s safe to assume she also thinks highly of Kate.

Kate isn’t the only former Below Deck cast member who has shown excitement over having Heather join the Bravo yachting family. Alex Radcliffe called her one of his best friends and said he was so excited to watch her on the show. Former chef and stewardess Anastasia Surmava expressed how much she loves Heather, and proud she is of her friend. Heather will be joined by two new stewardesses and new deckhands, as well as a new Captain. Captain Lee joined the season late, after an unexpected delay prevented him from being there on time. Eddie Lucas will also return, however this time as chief officer rather than bosun.

One of the staples of Below Deck is that typically the captain and the chief stew stay the same throughout the different seasons. With both a different captain and a new chief stew, it will be interesting to see if the show will still have the same vibe. Captain Lee is hard to replace, and it will be intriguing to see if the mid-season change in captains will disrupt the season. It will also be interesting to see whether or not Heather will decide to stay on the show past her first season, unlike Francesca after season 8.
