The season 9 trailer for Below Deck has officially dropped, and it hints at the crew being led by a new captain. The last fans saw of the crew, they had to cut their charter season short following the COVID-19 pandemic. Captain Lee was forced to sit his crew down and tell them he canceled the last few charters due to the contagious virus. With everyone unsure of their futures in the industry, they decided to have a little fun before heading home.
Last season, Captain Lee was given a whole new crew, with one former crew member returning after five years away from the yachting industry. Eddie Lucas returned as the bosun and was excited to get to work with Captain Lee again after so many years. While Lee may have been upset regarding the departure of his favorite chief stew, Kate Chastain, he was glad to have Eddie back on board.
In the new trailer for Below Deck, which is available to watch on YouTube, the crew goes through several ups and downs this season, including having to leave Captain Lee onshore. “We’re leaving the dock with a new captain, new crew, tensions are high,” Eddie says in the new trailer. In the video, Eddie reveals that he was promoted from bosun to the first officer, meaning he will have a lot more responsibility on his shoulders this year. However, he’s thrown for a loop when he sees Captain Sean Meagher will be taking Lee’s place for a few charters. In the trailer, Lee can be heard telling Eddie that he has a “condition” and that he will be taking charge of the boat.
Chef Rachel Hargrove will also be returning to the My Seanna superyacht, even though she and Eddie didn’t always get along in the prior season. The crewmates were at odds after Rachel almost quit the team following demanding charter guests. Once she returned, Eddie wasn’t too pleased with her, but didn’t want to say anything, fearing she would quit again. However, in the teaser, the two have a sit-down chat about their differences, so there is hope for reconciliation. Joining Eddie and Rachel is newcomer, Heather Chase, as a chief stew. Jessica Albert and Fraser Olender will be working alongside Heather in the interior. Jake Foulger, Rayna Lindsay, and Wes O’Dell are coming on as well, working with Eddie on deck.
Only the trailer for season 9 of Below Deck has aired, and viewers are already excited for the new season. Not only do they get last season’s favorites, Rachel and Eddie, but a whole new set of crew members. However, the absence of Captain Lee may be a difficult part of the season to watch.
