Through all of the chaos and drama that takes place throughout a season of Big Brother, it is oftentimes forgotten that the show is simply just a game. This seemingly obvious factor of the show tends to be forgotten by both players and viewers. For this reason, drama from inside the house is brought into the players’ real lives upon returning home, which can affect both their mental health and their real life reputations.

Throughout the last 22 seasons of the show, there has been a ton of drama both inside and outside of the house. There have been never-ending rivalries as well as gameplay backstabs that have ruined friendships. Because the group of contestants are closed off from the outside world for so long they tend to forget the differences between the game and reality. As they often times build close friendships while playing the game, the backstabs that are made which are necessary to win the game can become personal.

When Big Brother contestants do return to reality, they tend to come back to large social media followings. Because of the fan base each player builds, the dirty gameplay moves made inside the house get carried out into the real world. This can ultimately affect the individual’s real life reputation, which is why it is important to remember that the game is simply just that, a game. Many fans of the show bash on players for telling lies or backstabbing someone they were once close with while playing the game. They tend to not take the step back and realize that if they too were a part of the show they would most likely do whatever it took to win the half a million dollar grand prize.

While there have been many controversial players to enter the Big Brother house, not all contestants are bad people. Just because they may be portrayed that way on the show by using gameplay techniques such as lying or manipulating, that does not necessarily mean they would do those things in real life. Often times through production and editing cuts, certain situations can come off differently than what actually occurred. Since fans can become quite defensive of their favorite players, some will begin to bash those who do their favorites wrong.

The Big Brother chaos does not end for the players when they leave the house. Many times, contestants have a very hard time readjusting back to reality once the show is over. When fans begin to drag out drama from the show, it can make this process even harder for the players. With a new season of the show right around the corner, here’s hoping both the new houseguests and fans watching from home can remember that despite all of the drama and fights that ultimately make the show entertaining, it truly is just a game.
