Maybe we shouldn’t be all that surprised that Biomutant’s PC requirements aren’t all that hefty. After all, Biomutant was made to run on the original PlayStation 4, which is an eight-year-old console at this point. That’s not to say it won’t play even better on a PS4 Pro or PS5, just that as a baseline, you can still play it on a very, VERY old console.
And as such, you can play Biomutant on some pretty old PC hardware, too. Experiment 101 recently released the minimum and recommended PC specs to play Biomutant, and we can definitely say that they’re quite modest compared to some other modern PC games.
On the low end (ie. minimum system requirements), you’ll want either an AMD FX-8350 or Intel Core i5-4690K or newer running at 3.5 GHz or higher. Those are pretty old chips, so you’ve probably got that beat already if you’ve gotten new computer in the past decade or so. An Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 with 4GB of VRAM should be in the video card slot along with 8 GB of RAM and 25 GB of storage.
For optimal performance, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i7-6700K along with 16 GB of RAM is recommended. A GeForce GTX 1660Ti or Radeon RX 590 are both three-year-old video cards and shouldn’t be too hard to come by. And at 25 GB, Biomutant is hardly breaking your storage limits on even a modest SATA drive.
Although Experiment 101 mentions that a keyboard and mouse will be required, Biomutant comes with full controller support and that seems like it’d be the optimal way to play, given how game director Stefan Ljungqvist has compared his game with Breath of the Wild.
Of course, you can always get Biomutant on PS4 or Xbox One if you prefer to get around the complications of PC gaming. Expect a performance increase on newer consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to backward compatibility.
