Bioware isn’t going to let the Mass Effect franchise die just because of Anthem, and has a team secretly working on new “stuff you’ll really like.”
Canadian developers Bioware recently shared with us their mid-summer update where we got caught up on just what these crazy Canucks were up to. There was naturally a lot of talk about Anthem, Bioware’s upcoming and highly anticipated mecha suit-shooter that took center stage at EA PLAY at this year’s E3.
After that, we got more words on Anthem from when Bioware went to San Diego Comic-Con where they hung out in the Dark Horse Comics booth to announce the art and comic book for Anthem. It’s basically like we’re watching Bioware’s summer vacation, and it’s a lot better than what any of us have gotten up to.
We’ve been following your Instagram. We know your summer hasn’t been nearly as interesting as Bioware’s.

But what about the wayward space opera RPG, Mass Effect? Surely a single mediocre entry like Andromeda isn’t enough to get the whole series shelved indefinitely? There are millions of fans that are still clamoring for more Krogan-smashing good times.
Well, Bioware has good news for you. According to developer head Casey Hudson, “We have some teams hidden away working on some secret stuff that I think you’ll really like – we’re just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while…”
And it’s not just Mass Effect either. Dragon Age, which has never had an Andromeda-level flop, is also getting the same secret team treatment deciding where to take the series next.
And if you’re a fan of Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware has you covered too. They’ve got a third team hard work developing new content with plans to release some great stuff in the coming year.
And then the update ended with yet more Anthem stuff. Whatever.
Bioware will also be at PAX West in Seattle this September, so keep an eye out for the boys and girls from Edmonton while they continue their extended summer vacation.
