Activision and Treyarch have launched a new Alternate Reality Game that is teasing season one of Call of Duty: Warzone. The first part of the latest teaser introduced us to the operator Vikhor “Stitch” Kuzmin, while the second revealed the trailer for Black Ops – Cold War season one.

The ARG started in earnest early this morning on what we are calling the “Zasha” site, where you are tasked with entering codes (which needed to be deciphered by influencers that were chosen by Activision). The first code, “payback,” will lead you to Call of Duty’s YouTube page, where you are greeted with a room of old radio equipment. Entering the code “Stitchiscoming” will bring up a dossier of Vikhor “Stitch” Kuzmin. The third code “remotecontrol” brings up a mini-game featuring an RC/XD.

This game is in the style of Mario, and has you platforming around on an 8-bit screen with an RC/XD. Small boxes labeled “N6” will give you a boost. These boxes are references to the Nova 6 gas that was introduced in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. The fourth code, “Interrogation” produces an overhead view of Nuketown and may be a reference to the interrogation of “Stitch” Kuzmin—season one’s antagonist. The fifth code, “Vodianoy” launches an animation that shows what appears to be a missile detonation and the word “nova” before the animation stops. We know from Call of Duty lore that this was the plan that the Nazis had for Nova 6 gas before it was taken by the Russians. After the ARG ended, the trailer for season one launched.

This season is centered around “Stitch” Kuzmin’s revenge plot against CIA operative Russel Adler. Rebirth Island is confirmed, as well as the timeline that we will be playing in—1984. Season one will bring with it more lore about what is happening with the Nova 6 gas, as well as a potential new multiplayer map: Mall at the Pines in New Jersey, where Kuzmin has planted barrels of Nova 6.

We will have to wait and see where the story goes from here, but it’s shaping up to be an exciting season. Black Ops – Cold War season one begins on December 16.
