Bob Odenkirk has returned to the set of Better Call Saul season 6 after his heart attack. After appearing on 36 episodes of the hit crime drama Breaking Bad, Odenkirk went on to star in this prequel series, which began its run in 2015. Better Call Saul follows the exploits of attorney Jimmy McGill (not yet embracing his Saul Goodman alter ego) before he ever encountered Walter White. In addition to Odenkirk, the show stars Rhea Seehorn, Michael McKean, Tony Dalton, and returning Breaking Bad players Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring and Jonathan Banks as Michael Ehrmantraut.

Back in July, Odenkirk was hospitalized after collapsing due to a heart attack on set in New Mexico. He has spent the intervening time resting and focusing on his health. He handled his recovery with typical humor, including cracking a joke about everyone “insisting [he] made the world slightly better” like It’s a Wonderful Life. Thankfully, it seems that the worst has definitely passed.

Odenkirk has been recovering well, and recently had an emotional reunion with Mr. Show collaborator David Cross. Now on Twitter, Odenkirk has shared a photo from the make-up chair, revealing that he is now back on set to complete filming for this season of Better Call Saul. The photo depicts makeup artist Cheri Montesanto (who also worked on the Breaking Bad movie El Camino) making him look “not ugly.” One thing that has certainly never taken a toll is his cheeky comedic sensibility. Although Better Call Saul was continuing production, prepping scripts and shooting scenes that didn’t involve Odenkirk, now the season (the show’s sixth and last) can kick back into gear. Plot details for this season are currently unknown, though executive producer Thomas Schnauz has hinted that this season will “hit harder” with the “physical and emotional violence.” Odenkirk has certainly proven he can handle that kind of tone, especially with his turn in this year’s action-fueled Nobody.

While fans will certainly be excited that they’ll be able to see the final chapter in Better Call Saul completed the way it was intended, Odenkirk’s health is obviously the first priority. Hopefully, the production will move at a much slower, smoother pace to allow Odenkirk the time he needs to continue his recuperation. Naturally, especially considering that the shooting was already delayed due to pandemic concerns, there is currently no release date for Better Call Saul season 6.
