Bored of the same old dating simulator schtick and looking for something a little more interesting? Is dungeon-crawling in RPGs starting to get stale and you’re desperate for something more? Then you have to check out Boyfriend Dungeon, an upcoming dungeon crawling-action RPG that lets players date their weapons. Yup, you read that right.
In Boyfriend Dungeon, players will collect various weapons while they traverse through a series of unique dungeons, with the goal of getting as far as you can. Each new weapon they collect has the ability to transform into a dateable man, woman, or non-binary person. There are a number of different weapons to collect (and therefore, people to date), so players can choose between a colorful cast when it comes to who they want to pursue.
The game’s unique premise may sound a bit confusing to envision, but luckily, fans were able to see a bit of the action during today’s Guerrilla Collective stream. As you can see from the footage below, it’s not nearly as complicated as it might sound:
In order to get strong enough to complete certain dungeons, players must enhance their relationship with their weapons. This is accomplished by building a relationship with the physical manifestation of their weapons.
Just like a typical dating simulator, players can send their dates text messages, schedule different hangouts and dates, and even exchange gifts. Each weapon has its own unique preferences when it comes to date spots and gifts, making each dateable character unique.
Additionally, as players spend more time with each of their weapons, they’ll be able to unlock new fighting abilities to help them in their future dungeon conquests.
Gameplay-wise, Boyfriend Dungeon operates like an RPG and visual novel. Meaning that layers will utilize real-time fighting mechanics when battling monsters in a dungeon, but read visual novel-like text and responses when hanging out with their weapons on dates.
