The Call of Duty League is rounding out the final two Home Series events before the teams set their sights on the postseason. With only these two events left, it really seems like everything is up for grabs, at least for the top five teams. If the last few events have been any indication, fans of the league are in for a show once the season playoffs roll around. After sporadic details here and there about the postseason, the CDL finally provided all the details needed, including the dates for the playoffs and Championship Weekend.

The playoffs start August 19th and will be a massive, double elimination bracket featuring all 12 CDL teams with the final elimination match and championship match set to take place on August 29th. Each playoff match will be the best of five while the finals will be an insane best of nine, setting the stage for an incredible final. Check out more of the details including prize pools at the Call of Duty League website.

The biggest bit of news is the playoffs, and championship, will take place online. There is a lot of jeering and complaints about LAN events going to the wayside due to the ongoing pandemic as many feel the online format levels the playing field too much and gives weaker teams a better opportunity to win. It’s easy to understand why the CDL decided to keep it online, but for the beginning of a brand new league, it will forever be marked with an asterisk next to the team to claim the first CDL championship.

There have been five different winners in the last six Call of Duty League events with those teams rounding out the top five in the overall season standings. What started out as a three-way race between Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas isn’t so certain anymore. With the league playoffs being played online (good or bad opinions aside), the opportunity for any team is open to make a run and be crowned champions. This should be fun.
